Job Description

We are seeking a committed, empathetic, and experienced Year 6 Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive and supportive primary school team. This full-time role focuses on providing dedicated 1:1 support to two students in Year 6, both with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), one also with ADHD. The successful candidate will work closely with both students at the same table, ensuring their individual needs are met so they can fully access the curriculum and thrive.

Student Profiles and Support Requirements



Student 1 - ASD (High Functioning):



Working at expected academic levels. Requires movement breaks in the afternoons to regulate energy and focus. Needs a TA who can

recognise early signs of dysregulation

,

pre-empt triggers

, and

implement calming strategies

(e.g. proactive movement breaks). Looking for someone

attuned to behaviour cues

and able to offer

subtle, supportive interventions

.

Student 2 - ASD/ADHD:



Recently started medication to aid concentration and emotional regulation. Working at expected levels but requires

consistent 1:1 support

to remain engaged and make progress. Needs a TA who can

model tasks

,

scaffold instructions

,

break down activities

, and

offer step-by-step guidance with repetition and reinforcement

. Visuals, manipulatives, and clear examples are essential tools in this student's learning.
All necessary resources are readily available. You will work alongside an experienced and supportive Year 6 teaching team.

Ideal Candidate Will Have:



Experience supporting students with ASD and/or ADHD, ideally in Year 6. A patient, calm, and empathetic approach with a strong understanding of neurodiversity. The ability to build trusting relationships and support positive behaviour. Proven skills in differentiation, modelling, and instructional scaffolding. An understanding of the KS2 curriculum and SATs preparation. A proactive attitude and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers and SENCOs.
