Year 6 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant - Full Time

A forward-thinking primary school in Barnet is seeking a skilled and compassionate Teaching Assistant to work full-time in a Year 6 classroom, providing dedicated 1:1 support for two pupils with additional needs. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in upper Key Stage 2, especially supporting children with ASD and ADHD.

About the Role

You will work closely with two pupils seated at the same table, each with unique needs requiring personalised support and consistent, attentive guidance throughout the day.

Pupil 1

- ASD (High-Functioning)

Working at expected level. Requires movement breaks in the afternoon to maintain focus and regulate behaviour. Needs an adult who can read early signs of restlessness and step in proactively. Calm redirection, flexibility, and emotional awareness are key.

Pupil 2

- ASD/ADHD

Working at expected level, recently started medication to support focus and regulation. Needs clear modelling, scaffolded instructions, broken-down tasks, repeated guidance and visual examples. Requires 1:1 support throughout the day to access learning confidently and independently.
All resources are readily available, and you'll work in collaboration with the class teacher and SEND team to provide structured, consistent and effective support.

Ideal Candidate

Has prior experience in Year 6 or upper KS2 settings. Demonstrates a strong understanding of ASD and ADHD support strategies. Proactive, observant, and sensitive to children's emotional and sensory needs. Skilled at breaking down instructions, modelling tasks, and reinforcing learning. Able to create a calm, focused, and inclusive learning environment.
