We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and skilled Functional Skills Tutor to join our vibrant team. This role involves supporting pupils with a range of SEMH needs, helping them access learning, build confidence, and develop important social and emotional skills.

Job description



You will support our teachers in delivering our bespoke curriculum. This will involve supporting pupils aged 11-16 in small group settings to enable them to achieve their qualifications as appropriate to their needs. When necessary work 1:1 with learners on appropriate activities. You will be required to work 1:1 or with small groups to promote engagement, progress and positive behaviour.

You will require an Enhanced DBS Disclosure for this role, which the Company will pay for. However, it will remain the responsibility of the employee to access the update service. A driving license is helpful.

Qualifications and Knowledge

:

Deliver engaging Functional Skills teaching (Entry Level 1-Level 2) with high-quality planning, differentiation, and in-class support. Track, monitor, and record student progress, using data to identify gaps and drive improved outcomes. Maintain organised learning environments, complete essential admin (marking, assessments, referrals), and support qualification processes. Work collaboratively with senior staff to uphold OFSTED standards, lead inclusive-practice initiatives, and contribute to continuous improvement. Attend meetings, CPD, and engagement activities, with occasional duties such as student transport where required.

Essential Requirements



GCSE Grade C/Level 4+ in Maths and English, plus a Level 5+ teaching qualification (SEND specialism desirable). Experience teaching Functional Skills/GCSE Maths or English (Entry Level 1-Level 2) and working with post-16 learners, particularly those with SEND. Strong understanding of inclusive education, safeguarding, alternative provision, and differentiated teaching strategies. Proven ability to track, monitor, and report on learner progress, including experience with exams, data analysis, and progress systems Basic understanding of child development and learning, foster a safe, calm and structured learning environment Understanding of the importance of forming and maintaining appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with young people Previous experience in SEN or SEMH settings (or strong transferable experience).
