Job Description

Overview


The Anglesey Column Trust (ACT) seeks to engage an experienced and proactive freelance fundraiser on a commission basis to support our mission of preserving and promoting the Marquess of Anglesey's Column and developing it into a thriving visitor destination. This role will involve generating income through grants, sponsorships, individual giving, and events and playing a key part in the strategic planning and delivery of fundraising activities.

Scope of Work


The freelance fundraiser will work in close collaboration with the Trust Manager, trustees, and volunteers to:

Develop and Deliver Fundraising Strategy

Identify and secure new sources of income, including grants, corporate sponsorships, major donors, and community fundraising. Write and submit compelling funding applications and proposals. Build and manage a donor database and ensure appropriate stewardship.

Event Planning and Delivery

Plan and support the delivery of income-generating events, including community open days, seasonal markets, ticketed tours, educational workshops, and gala dinners. Develop partnerships with local businesses, artists, and community groups to support and promote events. Assist with marketing and promotion in collaboration with the Trust's team.

Campaign and Appeal Management

Design and implement targeted fundraising campaigns and appeals (e.g. "Sponsor a Step" or "Friends of the Column"). Monitor campaign performance and report outcomes to trustees.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Compliance

Track all fundraising activity and provide regular reports on progress and financial outcomes. Ensure all fundraising activities comply with the Fundraising Regulator's Code of Practice and relevant legal obligations.

Qualifications and Experience Required


We're looking for someone with:

Proven experience in successful fundraising (grants, events, or donor campaigns). A background in the charity, heritage, arts, or visitor attraction sectors is desirable. Strong written communication skills, particularly in grant applications and sponsor proposals. Confidence in networking and developing relationships with donors and partners. Experience inplanning and delivering fundraising events (essential). Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and report clearly on progress.

Terms of Engagement



Basis

: Freelance/Contractor

Compensation

: Commission-based (to be agreed upon, e.g., a percentage of successful funds raised). Events support and fixed tasks may be negotiated separately.

Hours

: Flexible, estimated 3-8 days per month, depending on activity.

Initial Term

: 6 months with potential to renew or expand based on performance and funding.

Location

: Remote/flexible, with occasional site visits to the Anglesey Column and event attendance.

Pay: 100.00-50,000.00 per year
