Assisting the General Manager, you will be supervising the day-to-day running of our varied site which includes a garden centre, cafe, plant nursery and rental units. The brief is simple: keep everything working smoothly and according to our policies.
Your key responsibility will be supervising operations and cascading instructions to key staff members including:
Daily operations - open-up / close-down, cashing-up, staff rotas and customer service.
Policy & procedures - help enforce Standard Operating procedures (SOP), risk assessments, hygiene policies and safe-systems-of-work. Ensuring PO are issued and delivery notes checked.
Retail floor & plant area - ensuring merchandising standards, POS accuracy, stock takes, price changes.
Contractor & maintenance coordination - meet trades, issue permits, check RAMS, sign-off jobs.
Hygiene & compliance - keep an eye on food-safety (EHO), plant-passporting, COSHH logs, weekly H&S walk-rounds.
Facilities & rentals - assist as required.
Incident response - monitor the accident book, near-miss reports, and supervise emergency drills.
Team support - ensure instructions are followed, escalate issues to the GM promptly.
Events - Helping to organise events from a given plan and supervising their running.
Deliveries - Supervising goods-in processes and stock storage.
Maintenance - Logging and escalating maintenance issues (leaks, lighting, blocked drains).
Cover other roles if required.
What we're looking for
Solid, hands-on garden-centre experience covering retail operations and back-of-house logistics.
Proven record of implementing policies and keeping paperwork audit-ready.
Confident with basic IT: EPOS, Excel/Sheets, cloud docs.
Working horticultural knowledge is a bonus, but organisation, accuracy and teamwork are essential.
Calm under pressure; happy to take clear direction from the GM and see it through without "reinventing the wheel."
Able to work alternate weekends and key seasonal dates.
Must be ready to hit the ground running.
Full-time. Salary by negotiation within our salary structure.
