Working as part of the maintenance team, the Gardener is responsible for all Estate Management, responsible for the care, design, and upkeep of the Marcliffe's extensive grounds, ensuring they are maintained to the highest standards for our guests year-round.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Maintain lawns, flower beds, hedges, and borders across the Marcliffe estate
Carry out seasonal planting, pruning, weeding, and mulching
Operate and maintain gardening equipment including mowers, strimmers, and hedge trimmers
Support the design and implementation of new garden features and landscaping projects
Ensure all pathways and garden areas are safe and tidy for guest use
Monitor plant health and apply appropriate treatments (fertilizers, pesticides) as required
Liaise with the Maintenance Manager and hotel team to coordinate garden maintenance around guest needs and events
Assist in winter tasks such as snow clearing and gritting walkways
Help maintain greenhouses, water features, and ornamental areas
Adhere to health and safety policies and environmental best practices
To carry out additional duties as requested by the Maintenance Manager / Deputy General Manager.
ABOUT YOU
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others in a team.
Proven experience as a professional gardener, preferably in a hotel or estate setting.
Knowledge of horticulture, seasonal plant care, and landscape design.
Competent using a range of gardening machinery and tools.
Driven, passionate, and proactive with a hands-on approach.
Personable, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
Ability to multi-task and learn quickly.
Strong organisation time management skills, attention to detail.
Adaptable, innovative and flexible to business demands.
Physically fit, mobile and able to lift heavy objects, and work in all weathers.
Operate effectively in a fast-paced environment and make informed and considered decisions.
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Horticulture (or equivalent) desirable.
Full UK drivers licence essential.
