Malone Hotel are seeking a dynamic and results-driven

General Manager

to lead and oversee the entire operation of our 4-star boutique hotel in Belfast, ensuring excellence in guest experience, operational efficiency, financial performance, and team leadership. The preferred candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills, a passion for hospitality, and the ability to drive revenue while always maintaining the highest standards of service and quality. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of business transformation and understand the unique challenges of managing an independent hotel without the internal support of a corporate brand.

About The Role



Key Responsibilities:



Strategic Leadership & Operations



Deliver the business financial KPI's and measures necessary for the long-term sustainability and growth of the business. Develop and execute long-term strategies to enhance Malone Hotel's market position and profitability. Monitor industry trends and competitor analysis to identify growth opportunities. Ensure compliance with local regulations, licensing, and health & safety standards. Oversee daily hotel operations, ensuring seamless coordination between all departments. Ensure efficient processes across all departments through regular reviews conducted by each relevant party. Implement and suggest technology and operational improvements to enhance guest experiences. Build and maintain strong relationships with key external partners, including Visit Belfast, IoH, Tourism Ireland, NIHF, and other industry bodies.

Guest Experience and Engagement



Maintain exceptional service standards to ensure guest satisfaction and positive reviews. Oversee guest feedback mechanisms and implement improvements where needed. Oversee service standards, ensuring consistency and personalisation in guest interactions. Address guest complaints professionally and proactively, turning problems into solutions. Be visible and approachable--personally greet and interact with guests. Handle difficult situations with diplomacy, patience, and efficiency.

People and Culture Management



Recruit, develop and lead a team of people to deliver exceptional service. Foster a positive work culture that encourages teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement. Ensure staff engagement, performance management, and career development. Engage and motivate a high-performing hospitality team. Conduct regular performance reviews/evaluations and provide coaching/mentoring to staff. Ensure compliance with labour laws, health & safety regulations, and hotel policies.

Financial Performance and Revenue Management



Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and efficient resource allocation to maximise profitability. Optimise pricing strategies based on demand, seasonality, and competitor analysis. Ensure compliance and the right strategy is in place relating to the Average Daily Rate (ADR) & Occupancy Rates. Advise on the development of Corporate & Group Sales Strategies to attract business travellers, conferences, and weddings to boost long-term revenue. i.e. Upselling services to include dining and event spaces. Provide clear insights into revenue, expenses, and growth opportunities to the Board of Directors.

Industry & Stakeholder Engagement



Establish and maintain strong working relationships with external partners such as Visit Belfast, IoH, Tourism Ireland, NIHF, and other industry bodies. Represent the hotel at networking events and industry forums to enhance brand visibility.

Legal and Regulatory Compliance



Develop and execute sustainability initiatives to minimise environmental impact while maintaining operational efficiency. Ensure the hotel fully complies with local health and safety laws, including fire safety, sanitation, and emergency protocols. Maintain compliance with wage regulations, working hours, employee rights, and non-discrimination policies. Ensure secure handling of guest and employee data to prevent breaches and legal risks. Ensure employees are trained on workplace ethics, diversity, and inclusion.

Required Criteria



Bachelor's degree or Master's in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Proven experience as a General Manager or in a senior leadership role within the hospitality industry, preferably in a luxury or boutique hotel setting. Track record of driving strategic changes, optimising performance, and increasing revenue. Strong financial acumen with expertise in cost control, budgeting, and revenue management. Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices in hospitality. Excellent relationship-building skills with industry bodies and key stakeholders within hospitality. Exceptional leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Passion for hospitality, attention to detail, and a guest-first mindset. Ability to work under pressure and adapt to dynamic operational demands. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
