Summary of activities
The duties of the General Manager are :
Manage Bressingham so as to provide a top level attraction for a wide range of visitors and maximise net income.
Protect and develop the collection
Provide a safe environment for visitors, staff and volunteers
To ensure Bressingham meets the required operating, safety and financial standards
Represent Bressingham in the wider Tourism and Museum world and with the local and Regional Authorities.

Main duties and responsibilities
1. Overall Management of Bressingham Steam Museum
1.1. To have strategic responsibilities for all of the activities at Bressingham including four working railways, mobile and static displays. To be responsible for staff, and a team of volunteers. To continually ensure that Bressingham's employment policies and practices comply with current legislation and good practice.
1.2. To be responsible for the assessment and management of risk. To continually update health and safety documentation and operating manuals.
1.3. To develop and co-ordinate a diverse programme of events and activities at Bressingham during the open season to maximise visitor numbers and respond to the identified needs of local communities.
1.4. To lead on the future development of Bressingham including production of the Business Plan and funding strategies.
1.5. To develop and sustain local partnerships and liaise with the local authority, community groups, residents, businesses and appropriate local/regional/national bodies.
1.6. To maintain morale and good working relationships with all staff and volunteers, including the attraction and retention of volunteers.
2. Finances and accounting procedures
2.1. Maintain financial control of Bressingham's operations including the preparation of the annual income and expenditure budget, within the context of a longer term financial plan. Responsible for day to day monitoring and control of income and expenditure, management accounts and cash flow statements.
2.2. Ensure that all accounts are prepared for annual audit and deal with any related enquiries. Prepare the Annual report for presentation to the Trustees.
2.3. To develop and maintain a funding strategy. To identify needs and priorities for funding in consultation with staff and volunteers and to apply for grants, ensuring compliance with the grant conditions.
3. Liaise with the Board of Trustees
3.1. Act as Secretary to the Board of Trustees producing agendas, meeting briefs, minutes and reports to the Trustees.
3.2. Act as Company Secretary to both Bressingham and subsidiary trading company.
4. Ensure compliance with all health and safety, operational and any other relevant legislation and procedures, (including child protection and equal opportunities), regularly reviewed and amended according to new legislation

4.1. Co-ordinate site maintenance, including adequate security of railways, buildings, equipment and vehicles.
4.2. To be responsible for the development and management of the buildings, equipment and overall site. To ensure appropriate insurances and full compliance with any statutory requirements.
4.3. To ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and good practice, being responsible for ensuring that all appropriate assessments are undertaken - for example Risk assessments, COSHH, HMRI etc.
4.4. To promote equal opportunities through all projects at the Museum and to all staff and volunteers.
5. To provide a safe and inspiring environment for all users.
5.1. To ensure Bressingham remains open to the public and is accessible to all.
5.2. To continue to provide a range of activities accessible to diverse needs and respond to the needs of users.
5.3. To encourage more visitors.
