General Manager – Transport & Logistics

Job Description

Job Purpose:

To plan, direct, and manage international transport and distribution operations of the company, including strategic planning and business development.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning & Policy Development



Develops and implements transport and logistics strategy to ensure efficient and cost-effective delivery of services. Formulates internal policies and procedures for international freight, customs, and documentation.

Operational Management



Plans, organises, and supervises the daily operations of multimodal shipments, including project logistics (oversized cargo transport). Coordinates international road and container transport with subcontractors, shipping lines, and customs brokers. Oversees warehousing, distribution planning, and container depot operations when applicable.

Supplier & Client Coordination



Maintains and negotiates agreements with carriers, agents, and transport providers. Manages client relationships and serves as the main point of contact for key accounts. Ensures on-time delivery, tracks KPIs, and resolves transport disruptions.

Commercial Development



Conducts market research, develops client acquisition strategies, and supports commercial growth. Prepares cost calculations, quotations, and tenders for domestic and international clients. Monitors earnings and expenditure; optimises margins and pricing strategies.

Budget & Resource Management



Prepares and manages departmental budgets, ensuring cost-efficiency and performance targets are met. Plans recruitment, manages internal teams, and coordinates with third-party logistics providers (3PLs).

Compliance and Documentation



Ensures compliance with international transport laws, customs rules, Incoterms, and safety standards. Maintains accurate documentation for all modes of transport and supports customs clearance. Applies DNV methods and international standards for cargo securing and handling.

Systems, Reporting & Continuous Improvement



Implements and improves internal processes, digital tools, and logistics systems. Reviews and analyses transport performance data to identify areas for optimisation. Reports regularly to company directors on key metrics and progress against strategic goals.

Required Qualifications:



University degree in Transport, Logistics, Maritime Studies, or a related discipline. Additional training in supply chain management or international trade is beneficial.

Required Experience & Skills:



5+ years of managerial experience in a logistics or freight forwarding environment. Deep knowledge of international shipping, multimodal transport, and oversized/project logistics. Strong negotiation and client-facing skills. Proficiency in English and clear business communication. Familiarity with Incoterms, DNV securing standards, and international maritime regulations.

Pay: 38,000.00-48,000.00 per year
