Job Alert: General Manager - Wine Bar (Hospitality)

FULL TIME

We're searching for an experienced General Manager for our Urban Winery in Walthamstow. Situated at the home of Renegade where we make all our wines on the now famous Blackhorse Mile.

The venue has two floors, two bars, two outdoor spaces and heaps of untapped potential! We serve lots of interesting wines, primarily the wine we make right here in E17 but we also feature some guest wines. We have a selection of beers, cocktails, and a kitchen ran by a resident po-up chef.

We host lots of events including wine tours and tastings, weddings and the odd festival or musical performance. We recently participated in the Blackhorse Beer Mile Birthday Party which was a huge success and brought lots of new people down to the area. We're in the process of investing in the venue which includes renovations in our large back garden which has some stunning sunsets overlooking the wetlands.

Are you an enthusiastic, proactive, customer focused, wine loving and generally incredible, experienced manager who enjoys working in a small team?

We're looking for someone with a passion for hospitality and providing the brilliant service that makes our guests come back time and time again. And at the same time, is competent and confident with the admin side of running a small business. You don't need to be a wine nerd but a love of wine, looking after people and creating memorable experiences is crucial.

Background:

Renegade Urban Winery was founded in 2016 in Bethnal Green, East London. This is where we made all the wines until mid-2021 when we moved most of the winemaking to E17. We have a fully-fledged winemaking facility producing premium wines in London from English and European grapes. We work with family-owned vineyards and bring the grapes back to London for processing. We are an innovative, low intervention winery, making modern wines for a new generation of wine drinkers. We produce around 70,000 bottles of wine a year. Most of this is sold to restaurants, bars, through retail partners, export and online but a portion is also sold direct to the public through our winery bar/shop in Bethnal Green E2 and in the winery in E17.

We are a young and exciting business looking to grow our team. As a small, independently owned business, we are not flush with loads of cash. We focus on investing in our staff and winemaking and thinking outside the box to deliver a level of service and experience, not simply by throwing money at it. Someone who is happy to get involved and help build and improve the offering in stages, is hands on and a team player are key.

Responsibilities:

Working in and managing the wine bar

Managing rotas, revenue targets and costs

Hiring, training, retaining and motivating staff

Setting and enforcing quality, service and hygiene standards

Providing an exceptional customer experience

Managing stock levels, orders and deliveries

Managing EPOS/Booking system and running of reports

Help manage events

Bar management/oversight

Marketing support

Helping with Venue Social Media

Skills/Requirements:

Be a nice, decent, interesting, hardworking, honest person

Ambitious and a desire to do the job really well

Previous bar/restaurant/venue management experience essential

Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills

Maturity and willingness to take ownership

Ability to get stuff done quickly and well

Management skills:

Responsive and on the ball

Super communication (written/spoken/whatsapp/phone) and interpersonal skills

Desire to work during venue opening hours, which will obviously include nights and weekends

Desire to help develop and grow a small business into a great brand

Ability to come up with creative solutions and think outside the box

Decent knowledge of wine - WSET or other qualifications would be great - we can teach you though - personality and attitude is much more important!

Event experience would be a bonus.

We currently open Thurs to Fri evenings, Sat 12-11pm and Sun 12-6pm as core public facing/hospitality days. Private/Corporate events may take place on other days. Lots will change and evolve as the business grows and develops. That's the fun! We would like someone who can help shape the future.

SALARY (inc performance bonus/service): up to 55,000

There is lots of scope for growth and more responsibility/learning as we grow as a business.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 38,000.00-50,000.00 per year
