We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic Consultant in General Medicine with special interest in Gastroenterology. This is a whole-time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.We are a small, friendly department that works closely together. We are able to deliver a wide range of services to the patients of Southport and Ormskirk and want to continue this in a more comprehensive way.Applicants are required to hold Membership of the Royal College of Physicians(UK or equivalent qualifications), to be fully registered with the General Medical Council, and to be on the Specialist Register or due to obtain their CCT within six months of the date of interview. CESR candidates must have written GMC confirmation of successful application.Interviews will take place on Monday 9th June 2025 at Whiston Hospital L35 5DRMain duties of the jobThe post holder will join an integrated gastroenterology service which comprises: Three Consultant Gastroenterologists, two locum Gastroenterologist, one visiting Consultant Hepatologist, three middle grade Doctors (one ST and two SAS), and junior medical staff.The post holder will:Undertake Gastroenterology clinics with speciality clinics available depending on clinical interestCarry out inpatient ward and board rounds on specialist Gastroenterology wardPerform elective endoscopic procedures (colonoscopy, gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy)and be competent in most interventional endoscopy techniques. Additional training and support will be available if required.Perform urgent in-patient endoscopic procedures for emergencies when on wardManage in-patient referrals including in-reach service into Acute Medical Unit when on wardAttend GI MDT specialist and cancer meetingsSupport delivery of national targets (18 weeks, 62-day cancer, new to follow up ratios, length of stay)Provide training and supervision to junior doctorsParticipate in rolling teaching programmeThere is an on-call commitment, currently 1 14 but soon looking to move to Gastroenterology on call 1:8, offering a comprehensive 24 hour GI bleed cover on siteAbout usMersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust serves a population of over 600,000 with a workforce of over 10,500 dedicated and skilled staff across 21 sites.We strongly believe that the communities we serve should all have access to Five Star Patient Care.Our services:Acute CareProviding emergency and maternity services at Whiston, Southport and Ormskirk hospitals, and medical and surgical specialties across all our sites.Primary CareProviding primary care services at Marshalls Cross Medical Centre situated in St Helens Hospital.Community ServicesProviding adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Essential

• Full GMC registration and on Specialist Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview
• Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT on successful application
• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
• MRCP or equivalent medical qualification
