We are entering an exciting new chapter of growth and are looking for a highly skilled and motivated
General Operations Manager
to play a key leadership role in building the organisation from the inside out. This role is the most important position after the CEO and will be vital in ensuring our operations, people, systems, and partnerships are strong, effective, and ready to support our growth.
Role Purpose
The General Operations Manager will oversee the charity's day-to-day operations, manage and grow teams (both in-house and remote), and ensure that all departments are working effectively towards our mission. This role will be responsible for translating the CEO's strategic vision into practical, measurable actions and will act as the driving force behind the charity's organisational development.
The postholder will be a trusted partner to the CEO, taking the lead on operations, compliance, staff development, and systems, while also fostering a positive and mission-driven work culture.
Duties
Work closely with the CEO to turn the charity's vision and strategy into clear operational plans, priorities, and measurable goals.
Lead and manage the daily operations of all departments (programmes, fundraising, communications, marketing, social media, reporting, and support services), ensuring effective delivery.
Recruit, train, and manage staff (both in-house and remote) to build high-performing teams.
Set clear targets (KPIs) for all staff, monitor performance, and provide regular reports to the CEO.
Ensure staff have access to training, development, and the tools they need to succeed.
Oversee and improve systems, policies, and procedures to make the organisation more efficient and able to grow.
Lead the project to automate admin and operational tasks through AI tools, acting as the main point of contact for external AI developers.
Ensure compliance with all legal, financial, GDPR, safeguarding, and regulatory requirements.
Act as the operational point of contact for partners, regulators, and other external stakeholders.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance work culture across the organisation.
Make informed decisions to resolve operational challenges and step in to provide cover for staff when needed (in cases such as annual leave and sickness).
Develop and maintain accurate documentation, including policies, procedures, compliance frameworks, and reports.
Monitor service quality, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Oversee digital systems (Microsoft 365, CRM, and other platforms), and train staff on how to use them effectively.
Organise and support key meetings, including agendas, minutes, and follow-up actions.
Produce progress and performance reports for the CEO.
Promote innovation and resilience across the organisation to ensure adaptability and long-term sustainability.
Carry out any other reasonable tasks that support the charity's growth and mission.
Requirements - Essential
Proven experience in a senior operations or management role (minimum 3 years).
Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and manage high-performing teams (both in-house and remote).
Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to oversee multiple projects at once.
Experience of HR functions, including recruitment, staff development, and performance management.
Confidence in using and training others on digital systems (Microsoft 365, CRM, and other operational tools).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
A proactive and adaptable mindset, with the ability to make decisions under pressure.

Requirements - Desirable
Experience working in an international NGO or humanitarian setting.
Knowledge of charity fundraising, marketing, and communications.
Experience in implementing process automation or working with AI tools.
Formal management or leadership training/qualification.
