Job Description

Maintain excellent H&S compliance. Achieve and maintain KPI and business goals. Liaise with other departments and external clients to ensure customer satisfaction and improvement of processes and procedures. Conduct search and review of existing site information and project history.

Prepare for on-site operations



Consult with stakeholders including Client Engineer's customers, etc. Identify the job, location, work instructions, appropriate sampling/test procedures and safety requirements. Identify site hazards and identify appropriate personal protective equipment and safety procedures that are specified for the job and materials used. Record description of the job to be undertaken, compare with Job Instruction and report any variations required. Brief support personnel on job-specific requirements. Ensuring ongoing liaison with stakeholders during site works. Ensure site access requirements including parking have been organised. Arrange for the collection, checking, stowing and transport of all tools, equipment and materials required at the site. Carry out vehicle checks. Carry out checks (PUWER) and/ or basic maintenance of plant and equipment (L2). Receiving and organising materials and equipment for the investigation activities (L2).

Maintain a safe working environment



Confirm/ identify site hazards and identify appropriate personal protective equipment and safety procedures that are specified for the job and materials used. Provide site induction for support personnel, as required. Use safe work procedures and protective equipment to ensure personal safety and that of others (L2). Establishing and maintaining work area protection. Establishing and maintaining work area Safety, Welfare and Health (L2). Minimise environmental impacts of testing/sampling and generation of waste (L2). Collect and/or dispose of all waste in accordance with enterprise procedures (L2).

Arrange Site Investigations (i.e. excavation of boreholes, trial pits and/or trenches, drainage inspections, etc)



Identify the sampling/testing location. Complete and issue Permit to Dig. Directing/ managing workforce on site including multiple teams and or Sub-Contractors/ Specialist Suppliers. Excavate or oversee excavation to the sampling/testing depth, minimising disturbance and potential contamination of the site. Ensuring ongoing liaison with stakeholders during site works. Identify materials and record changes of strata, test results, root encounter, groundwater and other relevant information. Terminate the excavation at the appropriate depth and record the reason for termination. Label and record samples in accordance with Operating Procedures/ Code of Practice. Recognise and record details of site conditions that may impact on sample integrity or site interpretation. Record test data in accordance with test methods or Operating Procedures/ Code of Practice. Record drainage inspection details in accordance with the Job Instruction and/ or Operating Procedures/ Code of Practice. Recognise obvious errors or atypical data and take appropriate corrective actions. Preparing, operating and supervising support personnel in the use of specialised power tools and equipment in the workplace. Promoting and implementing productive working practices in the workplace. Understand the basic concepts, purposes and principles of subsidence site investigation (L2). Prepare and check soil and root sampling equipment and materials (L2). Excavate to the specified sampling/testing depth, minimising disturbance and potential contamination of the site (L2). Ensure materials from different strata are kept separate (L2). Take soil and root samples as directed and in accordance with Operating Procedures/ Code of Practice (L2). Conduct pre-use checks of in-situ test equipment (hand shear vane, pocket penetrometer, Mackintosh Probe) (L2). Perform Insitu tests (hand shear vane, pocket penetrometer, Mackintosh Probe) as directed and in accordance with test methods and Operating Procedures/ Code of Practice (L2). Completing investigation to Job Instruction (L2).

Finalise Site Operations



Backfill or seal any excavation and ensure that it is left in a safe and uncontaminated condition. Compliance of reinstatement requirements for surfaces disturbed by sampling or testing in accordance with Job Instruction. Notify appropriate site personnel, Client and Supervisor on completion of tasks and prior to leaving site. Check site records/ field reports for completeness and quality including: TP/BH Logs (complete descriptions of soils to BS5930). Site Feedback Form. Site Specific Risk Assessment. Site Plan. Lab schedule (soils) Root records Drainage Inspection records Site Observations Record description of the job undertaken, compare with Job Instruction and report any variations. Record and report Environmental Incidents, Accidents and Near Misses in accordance with Operating Procedures/ Code of Practice and submit to Site Investigation Supervisor. Record and report Health Safety and Welfare Incidents, Accidents and Near Misses in accordance with Operating Procedures/ Code of Practice and submit to Site Investigation Supervisor. Clean all equipment (and vehicle, as necessary) avoiding environmental damage, surface water contamination or spread of pests (L2). Check all equipment/materials prior to re-stowing them for safe transport (L2). Handle and transport samples in accordance with established practices (L2). Notify appropriate site personnel on completion of investigations and prior to leaving site. On return to base, check serviceability of test equipment before storage (L2).

Maintain Records



Maintain equipment (PUWER) records in accordance with Operating Procedures/ Code of Practice and submit to Site Investigation Supervisor. Maintain vehicle check records in accordance with Operating Procedures/ Code of Practice and submit to Site Investigation Supervisor. Maintain PPE check records in accordance with Operating Procedures/ Code of Practice and submit to Site Investigation Supervisor. Maintain confidentiality of Client information.

Skills:



The basic concepts, purposes and principles of subsidence site investigation. Subsidence site investigation methods, tools, plant, equipment, etc and appropriate selection for conditions their appropriate uses. Basic engineering properties of soil and rock materials and their use in engineering and construction Identification, classification and description of soil, rock and fill materials. Principles of planning and project management. Hard and soft surfacing reinstatement methods/ techniques. Geotechnical Soil and root sampling methods and protocols. Insitu testing methods, their appropriate uses and purpose Basic drain defect assessment and serviceability criteria for private drainage systems. Basic foundation construction types Relevant health, safety and environment requirements. Excellent interpersonal skills Excellent complaint handling skills Ability to "think on feet" Excellent communication skills both written and verbal Self-motivation

Qualifications:



IOSH Safe Supervision of Geotechnical Sites IoSHH Avoiding Danger from Underground Services. CSCS Construction Related Occupation (White Card). CCTV Inspections - Private Drainage Systems (Practical Camera Inspection) (OS24) Training Course. Management of Safety in Excavations First Aid at Work Asbestos Awareness Abrasive Wheels - Portable Equipment. Driving Licence (Category B).
