Do you have the expertise to help guide a GIS team through a critical transition period?



Our GIS Mapping team delivers high-quality cartographic support across Bidwells' departments and client base - from residential and commercial property to estate management, farming, forestry and planning.



We're seeking a GIS Consultant for a 6-month strategic role during a key transition period. To be based at our head office in Trumpington, Cambridge.



You'll lead the day-to-day operations of the GIS team, oversee the migration from legacy ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro and collaborate with senior leadership to define a long-term GIS strategy. This role also offers the opportunity to explore new client-facing GIS capabilities and provide expert mapping support across the business.



While this role is initially offered as a 6-month consultancy, there is potential for it to become permanent for the right candidate.

What you'll be doing:



ArcGIS Pro Migration



Leading the full migration from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro, including planning, execution and post-migration support Auditing existing workflows and data structures for compatibility Configuring ArcGIS Pro environment and integrating with existing systems Delivering training to GIS team and creating supporting documentation

Strategic Planning & Innovation



Collaborating with senior leadership to develop a 3-5 year GIS strategy Researching emerging GIS technologies and methodologies Identifying opportunities for cloud GIS, mobile capabilities and advanced analytics Recommending infrastructure and licensing improvements

Client-Facing GIS Development



Proposing new GIS services to enhance client experience and generate revenue Exploring web mapping portals, dashboards and self-service tools Developing prototypes and business cases for new offerings Supporting business development with GIS value propositions

Team Management



Overseeing daily operations of the GIS Mapping team Allocating projects, mentor team members and ensure quality control Fostering collaboration across departments and maintaining service continuity

Technical Delivery



Providing expert GIS support for complex mapping projects Producing high-quality outputs across various property sectors Responding to technical queries and optimising workflows Maintaining data accuracy and developing automation solutions

Stakeholder Engagement



Liaising with internal teams to understand GIS needs Communicating progress and recommendations to senior management Building relationships with external vendors and promoting GIS internally

Knowledge Transfer



Ensuring smooth handover and knowledge transfer to permanent staff Documenting processes, strategic plans and operational guides Providing post-engagement support and transition advice

About You:





Extensive experience with Esri ArcGIS suite, especially ArcGIS Pro Proven success leading GIS platform migrations, ideally to ArcGIS Pro Strong grasp of GIS architecture, spatial analysis and data management Skilled in GPS, online mapping platforms and cartographic production Familiarity with Python, Model Builder and automation techniques (preferred) Experience developing long-term technology strategies and roadmaps Strong analytical, problem-solving and commercial awareness Proven project management experience, including planning and risk mitigation Effective stakeholder management in complex environments Experience leading GIS teams and providing technical mentorship Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to train and upskill team members on new technologies Confident presenting technical concepts to non-technical audiences Excellent documentation and report writing abilities Collaborative approach with stakeholders at all levels
