The Glass Operative is responsible for the safe handling, inspection, cutting, preparation, and processing of glass units used in our secondary glazing systems. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, careful and methodical working practices, and the ability to identify defects to ensure all products meet company quality standards. The ideal candidate will be safety-focused, patient, and comfortable with manual handling of heavy materials.
Key Responsibilities
Glass Handling & Preparation
Safely lift, move, and position glass units, including larger and heavier sheets.
Use appropriate lifting equipment and follow all manual handling protocols.
Prepare glass for assembly, cutting, or processing as required.
Quality Inspection
Carefully inspect all glass for defects, scratches, chips, contamination, or damage before and after processing.
Record and report any defects or quality issues to the Production Supervisor.
Manufacturing & Assembly Support
Assist in the manufacturing of secondary glazing units, including fitting, sealing, and assembly tasks.
Ensure all components are handled with care to prevent damage.
Health & Safety
Follow all safety procedures, including PPE requirements and safe handling practices.
Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free workspace.
Participate in safety briefings and report any concerns immediately.
General Duties
Support production workflow to meet daily manufacturing targets.
Maintain accurate documentation where required.
Assist colleagues and contribute to a positive, safety-focused team environment.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
Experience of handling, cutting and preparing glass
Experience in a manufacturing, glazing, or similar hands-on production environment.
Experience with manual handling and safe lifting techniques.
Desirable:
Forklift licence or experience using lifting equipment (training can be provided).
Working Conditions
Factory-based role with standing, lifting, and physical activity required throughout the shift.
Use of PPE including gloves, safety glasses, and protective footwear.
Exposure to typical manufacturing noise and equipment.
This role is based at our Manufacturing unit in Dinnington, hours are Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm
