40 hours per week, 40 weeks per year



Salary Range FTE: 29,215 to 36,896

Actual pro rata 25,633 to 32,372 per annum

(subject to teaching qualifications)

Based at Glasshouse College, Stourbridge



Glasshouse College reflects the history of the Stourbridge glassmaking district. The local traditions of glassblowing, etching and engraving provide a rich stimulus for the college's signature craft. Our students also attend other craft workshops including green woodwork, blacksmithing and textiles. Glasshouse College is part of Ruskin Mill Trust.



Established in 1984, Ruskin Mill Trust is an educational charity that operates in England, Scotland and Wales. We offer exciting outdoor learning environments, utilising practical land and craft activities to support the development of work and life skills in young people with autistic spectrum conditions and other learning differences. Our research-led method, Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE), is inspired by the work of Rudolf Steiner, John Ruskin and William Morris. Working with hand, head, heart and place, Ruskin Mill Trust helps individuals to re-imagine their potential.

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a committed and enthusiastic professional to deliver therapeutic education whilst teaching the craft and skills of glass making to students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged 16-25, who attend Glasshouse College, Stourbridge.

Applicants who have experience in hot glass making and/or engraving/etching are invited to apply. A teaching qualification is desirable but not essential, provided there is a willingness to undertake teacher training once successfully appointed.

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

Delivering a glass curriculum to young people with complex needs and learning differences which embodies the Ruskin Mill Trust method of Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE) Delivering teaching and training with a therapeutic and supportive approach in line with the Trust's method of PSTE which involves students making items of service for themselves and others. The delivery of qualifications where appropriate, and in line with student needs and aspirations. Instilling enthusiasm and enjoyment into the learning process in such a way that can lead to increased self-esteem and the development of transferable skills for life beyond college and the workplace. Undertaking the ongoing assessment of student progress and learning needs and to make reasonable adjustments as required, in order to minimise any barriers to learning and achievement. Working with other members of the tutor team on collaborative projects and activities which support learners' development.
In this role you will:

Deliver high quality practical skills, teaching and training to students of mixed abilities within the agreed Quality Assurance framework of the Trust. You will also be responsible for embedding communication, word and number into all glass making sessions with students. Hold or be willing to work towards a recognised teaching qualification. Have experience of (desirable) and/or a commitment to (essential) working with learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) Possess a high degree of personal resilience and emotional intelligence.
