Job Summary



The GP Assistant (GPA) role is part of a multi-disciplinary team within primary care to support the clinicians in the smooth running of the surgery by handling higher level administration and occasionally some mixed, basic clinical duties enabling the clinicians to focus on the patient. Clinical duties will also account for administrative lead matters and liaising with patients [this is NOT an HCA/Nursing role].

Job Responsibilities



Arrange referrals on behalf of the clinician - both internally (to other clinicians or care coordinators/social prescribers/health and wellbeing coaches) or externally (to the hospital or community clinics)

Sort incoming clinical post - scan to patient records, extract information that needs coding, book appointments if requested, organise requested blood tests and task GP if other action/considerations are required.

Support the administration team with document management, including e-reports.

Complete basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some other forms for the GP to approve and sign (such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.), especially in absence of other admin/secretarial team.

Help the GP liaise with external agencies (such as arranging admissions so the GP can continue with their consultations)

Support the Practice Manager with QOF, QI and IIF targets.

Support the Administrator with recall system for Long Term Condition reviews.

Arrange monthly MDT meetings, prep, minute taking and transcription.

Safeguarding Administration in liaison with current SG Admin leads.

Actioning Subject Access Requests.

Completing simple clinical observations /investigations as directed, such as dipstick urine, taking blood pressure.

Processing lablink/test results on system as directed by GP with possible further formal learning to mark up basic results in own remit.

Participate in an annual individual performance review.

Track and record evidence of their experience against the national competency framework.

Partake in National Competancy Framework official training when accessible.

Be aware of their own professional boundaries and what to do when they are reached.

The above list of duties is not exhaustive and may be subject to change as deemed necessary, by the Surgery Partners and/or Practice Manger.

Pay: From 12.51 per hour

Expected hours: 19 per week
