The post of Graduate Assistant/Gap Year Student - Chaplaincy
We are offering a one-year fixed term contract position for a graduate or equivalent to support the School Chaplain and help promote the Catholic ethos and mission at Farnborough Hill. This role is an opportunity to work in a vibrant, all-girls, Catholic, day school and would provide the candidate with experience of working in a school environment. The role will help with Retreat Days, Assemblies, prayer, acts of worship, Charity events, co-curricular clubs, as well as, serving as a positive role model and person of faith.
This role will report to the School Chaplain and is for a fixed term contract from September 2025 to 10 July 2026. The hours of work will be 8.30 am - 4.00 pm Monday to Friday term time only plus Inset days, although there may be occasions when work outside these hours is required. The salary is 15,000 for the contract term. There is on-site parking, a free school lunch during term time, and the use of our new fitness suite at certain times of the day. There is also single studio accommodation, if required. The accommodation has cooking facilities and is available throughout the duration of the role and is included in the offer.
Person Specification
Essential
Be a practising Roman Catholic willing to promote the teachings of the Catholic Faith.
Be a positive, enthusiastic role model who is comfortable working with young people.
Be able to use ICT in an effective and organised manner.
Be aware of and comply with both School and Trust policies and procedures.
Ability to prioritise effectively and work as part of a team.
Have strong communication skills; both written and verbal.
Must be flexible, have a sense of humour and possess a 'can do' attitude.
Be able to keep confidentiality, when necessary, as well as determine when to pass information on to the Chaplain or Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
Desirable
Prior experience in working with young people.
Experience of volunteering within university, school, college or a club.
Demonstrate creative and innovative thinking for developing prayer and spreading the Catholic faith within a school setting.
Primary responsibilities
Support the School Chaplain, and the whole school community, in promoting the School's mission and Catholic ethos.
Be an enthusiastic role model who embodies our School's charism: 'To Serve the Lord Joyfully and Wholeheartedly.'
To behave in a manner that is both professional and friendly with pupils, colleagues, parents, local clergy and outside organisations.
Work cooperatively as part of the wider Chaplaincy Team and school staff.
Prepare and assist in delivering prayer, Assemblies, pupil Retreat Days and co-curricular clubs.
Support annual school events such as the Advent Carol Service, Lenten Charity Week, Masses, and occasional school trips.
Be able to use ICT in an effective and organised manner.
To take part in further training courses where the opportunity permits.
Other School responsibilities
Work with initiative within a given framework.
Take an active and supportive role in the pastoral care of the children. Report any problems or concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or class teacher.
Attending INSET for professional development.
Assist with Chaplaincy displays and Chaplaincy articles and social media posts.
