Job Description

Kickstart Your DevOps Career at Plymouth University - Where Innovation Meets Impact!

Are you passionate about technology and ready to launch your career in DevOps? Join the Uiversity of Plymouth Technology & Information Services (TIS) team as a Junior DevOps Engineer and help shape the digital backbone that supports our students, staff, and research community.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to begin your journey in DevOps with hands-on experience, structured support, and a real impact from day one. Working as part of our collaborative DevOps team, you'll help deliver reliable, secure, and innovative technology solutions that keep the University running smoothly and support our ambitious digital goals.

You'll gain exposure to all areas of modern DevOps practice, from systems design and integration to security, capacity planning, and service support, while learning directly from experienced engineers and contributing to meaningful projects.

As a Graduate Junior DevOps Engineer, you'll play an active role in delivering and improving our services.

Key responsibilities include:

Designing, building, and supporting IT solutions that align with best practice and architectural standards, working closely with the DevOps Team Manager and colleagues. Assisting in the implementation and integration of new systems and services, helping to deliver solutions on time, on budget, and to high quality standards. Contributing to the continuous improvement of DevOps processes, including reviewing procedures, analysing data, and suggesting enhancements. Providing excellent support and service to users across the University, responding to issues, offering advice, and helping to resolve problems. Creating and maintaining technical documentation and developing training materials under guidance, supporting knowledge sharing across the team.

This is a learning-focused role where you'll shadow experienced team members, build your technical expertise, and gradually take on more responsibility as your skills develop.

For this role, you will need to be on site 3 days a week. Although we can accommodate working from home for this role, flexibility to be on-site will be expected due to business needs.

A collaborative mindset and the confidence to work both independently and as part of a team. A proactive approach to developing your skills and supporting others.
