Landscape Architect - Sheffield City Council

Working for the Capital Delivery Service

The Capital Delivery Service is seeking a Graduate Landscape Architect to join our multidisciplinary team of construction professionals, supporting the delivery of a wide range of projects across the Council's capital programme.

Initial assessment of applications will be via our standard application form, considering your relevant skills, knowledge and experience against the person specification criteria outlined in the job description. If selected for interview, this will be combined with a technical assessment.

Duties & Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes/skills:


Strong creative design skills, and openness to innovation. A good level of technical competence and construction knowledge. Proficiency in Autodesk and NBS software, with a working knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM). Ability to work under own initiative and within multi-disciplinary design teams to deliver co-ordinated scheme designs within budget and programme. Experience of working with other design professionals to obtain planning and building control approvals for projects. Experience of providing landscape comments to Development Control Officers, assessing planning application's compliance within the relevant legal frameworks and Council policies. Excellent organisation skills. Good standards of literacy and numeracy. Good written and verbal communication abilities, including preparation of reports.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture or a closely related subject. Eligibility for, or already working towards, the Landscape Institute's Pathway to Chartership. Proficiency in use of AutoCAD.

About the Capital Delivery Service

Sheffield City Council has a strong capital construction programme with an ongoing value of approximately 200m per annum. To ensure the highest quality delivery standards are achieved, the Capital Delivery Service has been created to drive ongoing improvements in performance, quality and pace of delivery of the widely varying projects within the programme.



The Capital Delivery Service employs 100+ staff in a variety of management, technical and professional roles including an in-house multidisciplinary design team that provides design services for a wide range of construction projects.



The roles and services provided by the Capital Delivery Service include:


Architecture. Landscape Architecture. Structural and Civil Engineering. Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Work Assurance and Project Safety. Programme and Project Management. Cost Management. Capital Programme Management Office.

Capital Delivery Service is a fully traded service, charging fees for the services it provides and operating as a professional services consultancy within the City Council.

The Service has a vision for developing into a public sector leading centre of excellence for the delivery of capital projects and programmes and is at the forefront for driving change in how the Council delivers these programmes.

Training and Development

Working within the service, there are many opportunities for ongoing training and development. We seek to provide a range of training opportunities to suit the development needs of our staff and the delivery of the capital programme.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
