Marches Biogas is based in Ludlow Shropshire. We are the UK's leading provider of anaerobic digestion solutions for agriculture and waste management industries with more than 30 years AD experience. We design, build and install AD systems at a variety of scales and for a wide selection of customers, each with their own briefs and requirements. We carry out equipment retrofitting and installation improvement work for existing systems. We also deliver process, biological and operational support for many AD plants within the UK.

Main Purpose of the job:
As a Graduate Mechanical Engineer at Marches Biogas you will be participating in the renewable energy and waste management sectors, helping define, engineer and deliver engineering solutions across a variety of projects and customer types.
You will learn how to act as Mechanical Designer and Project Engineer for various projects, ensuring workable mechanical designs are produced in 3D and 2D CAD for a range of anaerobic digestion related projects. The role will involve close coordination with both the process engineer and site installation teams to ensure a fully integrated design is produced.
You will then be taught how to become involved during the site installation to ensure that good engineering practice is adhered to, on-going technical queries are dealt with in a timely fashion and both good and bad experiences are fed back into future designs to ensure that we learnt from our experiences.
As a Mechanical Engineer at Marches Biogas, you will interact with new projects as well as modifications on to existing systems. This is a great opportunity to learn about other systems and design philosophies, including their strengths and weaknesses.
Specific roles/learning objectives to include:

  • Liaise with customer about design requirements
  • Creating initial conceptual arrangement drawings for proposals and development into 3D models and 2D general arrangement drawings
  • Providing mechanical design input to ensure that the design outputs are achieved on time, meet the design requirements, and achieve an acceptable level of quality.
  • Ensuring that designs are fully integrated & coordinated with the process engineer, civil designer and electrical engineer.
  • Learning to read and understand relevant specifications and to incorporate feedback to ensure that the mechanical design incorporates all requirements.
  • At an appropriate level, acting as project engineer in managing and coordinating work packages and associated deliverables to include design, procurement and site liaison.
  • How and when to provide mechanical design support throughout the project i.e. feasibility outline design, detailed design construction and commissioning
  • Understanding any risks and assumptions made as the project progresses.
  • Taking part in design review meetings, learning how to discuss and amend designs for the best overall outcome.
  • Sharing best practise and good / bad experiences with other designers and relevant staff.
  • Providing technical reference during the installation phase of project construction to ensure that mechanically it is installed in line with requirements.
  • How to build and maintain excellent working relationships with the clients representative, site and office staff, suppliers and key subcontractors.
  • How to record both good and bad experiences involved in the project and to ensure that this knowledge is shared with the design team and other relevant Marches Biogas representatives.
  • To perform any other duties consistent with the role including any ad hoc projects.
Client support
  • Full site surveys covering equipment and installation assessments
  • Assist with site reviews to highlight areas for improvement and compliance to industry best practice
Skills and Experience
Degree qualified in a relevant technical discipline, ideally Mechanical Engineering.
  • Personal initiative and enthusiasm
  • Knowledge of AutoCad 2D, 3D & Inventor
  • Knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Excel & Word
  • Good mathematical skills
  • A keen interest in getting involved in all aspects of a project, both theoretical and practical.
  • Good communication skills
  • Prepared to travel
  • Full driving license
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Team Player
  • Capable of independent working and adhering to deadlines
