As a Graduate Upholsterer at Colony, you'll be joining our dedicated team to help breathe new life into our furniture and create beautiful, functional spaces. You will assist with upholstery projects across our network of venues, working closely with senior team members to learn the craft, refine your skills, and deliver high-quality finishes on time. Whether you're reupholstering existing pieces or helping create bespoke furnishings during refurbishments, you'll play a key role in ensuring that Colony's spaces remain stylish, comfortable, and professional.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Maintenance Team: Assist in restoring, reupholstering, and creating new furniture pieces across our venues.
Work with Various Materials: Gain experience working with a variety of materials including fabrics, leather, foam, and webbing to meet the needs of each project.
Upholstery Rework: Help prepare furniture for reupholstery, including stripping down old coverings, repairing structures, and applying new padding and fabric.
Create Custom Upholstery Pieces: Assist in the creation of bespoke furniture pieces for new and renovated spaces.
Maintain Consistency: Ensure all finished pieces are completed to a high standard, with attention to detail and consistent results across different styles and furniture types.
Support Fabric Selection and Design: Work with the team to help choose appropriate fabrics and finishes to complement the design vision of each venue.
Follow Health & Safety Protocols: Adhere to all health and safety guidelines, ensuring tools and materials are used safely and responsibly.
Ensure Cleanliness and Organisation: Keep workspaces tidy, maintain an inventory of tools and materials, and ensure that work areas are well-organised and safe.
Collaborate with Other Teams: Work alongside other trades (maintenance, painting, etc.) to ensure smooth project coordination and minimal disruption during renovations.
Track Progress: Help with documentation, including taking photos of work before and after completion, to help log and report progress on each project.
Skills & Experience We're Looking For
Qualification: A recent graduate or equivalent qualification in upholstery or a related field (apprenticeship, vocational training, etc.).
Attention to Detail: A keen eye for quality, with a focus on detail and finishing.
Adaptability: Willingness to learn and grow within a fast-paced environment, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
Creativity: An interest in design, comfort, and aesthetics, with a passion for crafting beautiful, functional furniture.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to work through challenges, whether it's sourcing the right fabric or finding creative ways to restore old furniture.
Team Player: Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues, suppliers, etc
Organisational Skills: Ability to stay organised and maintain an efficient work schedule.
Health & Safety Awareness: Understanding of basic health and safety practices in a workshop or construction environment.
