Job Details



The role is based within the estates team at Lochore Meadows Country Park and work largely takes place outdoors, in all weathers, in a countryside environment.


The post holder will undertake work to provide general maintenance and groundskeeping duties in line with the country parks aims and ethos.


As part of your role you will assist the team with a wide variety of tasks to help to maintain and manage the park for the benefit of people and wildlife. This can involve path maintenance, litter picking and management of a variety of different habitats, including woodland, grassland, wetland and also the maintenance of facilities for public access and recreation. The work can sometimes be physically demanding and can involve bending, lifting and carrying. A variety of hand tools and other equipment are used, such as strimmer's and hedge cutters where appropriate.


The post holder will contribute to the achievement of the services' key priorities. Although the post holder is expected to use their own initiative on occasion to complete tasks, the Park Manager will have direct responsibility for allocating and, where required, prioritising the day-to-day work of the apprentice and estates team.


You will be required to engage with customers and service users in a positive manner.

The Person



You must have a passion for working in the outdoors and be able to give good examples of this and the ability to carry out work of a repetitive nature whilst maintaining quality of work. An interest and passion in the environment is also advantageous to the role.


You should possess good communication skills and be able to transfer these in different circumstances e.g. dealing with members of the public and colleagues. You should be a good team player as well as being able to work alone and unsupervised at times.


Some basic experience carrying out maintenance duties would be useful. You should have the ability to follow complex instructions, stay calm and work well under pressure and deal with confrontation. You will need to use your initiative as and when required.


We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with the ability to be able to work unsupervised and independently as part of a wider team. You will possess good communication skills; be customer focused and demonstrate a "can-do" attitude at all times .


The successful applicant must also:


Be confident and level-headed when dealing with people at all levels. Have excellent time keeping. Be flexible and able to work on their own initiative. Have excellent team working skills. Possess a basic understanding of IT. Have good customer service skills. Have a passion for the environment. This post involves a significant amount of evening and weekend work on a rota basis.

Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain a Basic Disclosure through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
