Grounds Operative:



THE OPPORTUNITY



The primary focus will be working as part of a team and on your own initiative to provide efficient and effective maintenance support to the school, including porterage duties, maintaining monthly checks and tests, and ensuring the appearance of the buildings and surrounding areas are maintained to the required standards.

Making a positive impression is vital to the school, and the grounds operative would play a vital role in that, allowing the full potential of the stunning estate to be realised.

Hours, Salary and Benefits:



Position:

Full Time, Permanent, Mon - Fri

Hours:

7:30am - 4:00pm, 1/2 hour unpaid lunch break. 40 hours per week

Holiday entitlement:

25 days holiday pa.

Salary:

25,396.80 pa

Site:

Field care: feeding, seeding, grass cutting, and weed control. Maintain hard courts, cricket nets/strip. Pitch marking. Set up sports equipment (e.g., tennis nets, football goals). Maintain play equipment. Ensure school grounds are safe and well-maintained. Basic maintenance of the sewage treatment plant. Seek improvements for efficiency and appearance. Perform general maintenance tasks.
Horticulture:

Cultivate herbaceous borders. Maintain/prune trees, hedges, and shrubs. Create planting schemes.
Health and Safety:

Maintain COSHH records. Assist with risk assessments and implementation. Oversee subcontractors for quality and safety. Clear snow and ice for access.
Events:

Support in the timely setup of School events to ensure they look professional and adhere to Health and Safety standards. Ensuring safe parking within the School.
General:

Keeping tools and equipment in good order/repair. Ensuring all PPE is fit for purpose, correctly worn and maintained. Dealing with staff and others in a friendly and professional manner. Participating in relevant training as and when necessary. Carrying out emergency procedures in the event of a fire, flood, break-in, accident or major damage in line with the School's Emergency Plan. Any other duties as reasonably requested by the Estates Manager or School Business Manager to ensure the smooth running of the School.

Person Specification:



Essential:

Grounds/horticultural experience. Preparing and developing multi sports facilities. Maintenance Schedules. High standards of professionalism, punctuality, appearance and behaviour. Good people skills. Good problem-solving skills. Attention to detail. Ability to use own initiative. Flexible approach to working hours, demonstrating a 'Can-do' attitude. A full driving licence.
Desirable:

NPTC PA1 and PA6 Knapsack Spraying. NPTC Level 2 Chain Saw Maintenance. Practical experience of machinery. Practical maintenance skills. Preparation of cricket strip. An understanding of the Independent Schools' Sector would be helpful but not essential.
