Overview of the Role

We are seeking a hardworking, proactive and skilled Grounds Operative with Tree Surgeon skills to join our dedicated estate team. This hands-on role will support the management, maintenance and enhancement of the estate grounds, gardens, woodland and infrastructure.
Tree-work experience is highly desirable, with opportunities to undertake both routine and specialist arboricultural work alongside broader estate duties.

Key ResponsibilitiesGrounds & Estate Maintenance

Maintenance of lawns, gardens, formal areas and pathways. Strimming, hedge trimming, mowing and general upkeep. Maintaining estate buildings, fences, gates and infrastructure. Ensuring all areas of the estate are presented to the highest standard for weddings and corporate events.

Tree Work & Woodland Care

Carrying out tree inspections, basic arboricultural assessments and reporting issues. Pruning, branch removal, crown lifting and general tree maintenance. Safe and professional use of chainsaws and other tree-care machinery. Assisting with woodland management, habitat care and storm-damage response.

Machinery & Equipment

Safe operation of ride-on mowers, tractors, chainsaws, chippers, strimmers and grounds machinery. Routine checks, cleaning and minor maintenance of tools and equipment. Reporting repairs or replacements required.

Estate Operations

Assisting with small construction or repair tasks around the estate. Following all health and safety procedures and maintaining excellent working practices.

Person SpecificationEssential

Experience in estate, grounds, gardening, landscaping or similar outdoor work. Confident using grounds machinery and tools. Physically fit and willing to work in all weather conditions. Strong work ethic, attention to detail and pride in presentation. Ability to work independently and as part of a small, supportive team. Positive, proactive and dependable.

Desirable

Chainsaw certification (CS30/31 or equivalent). Experience as a groundsman, tree surgeon assistant or arborist. Tractor or machinery experience. Basic carpentry, fencing or handyman skills. Interest in sustainability, woodland care and conservation.
