Purpose of this role
This group role offers the right candidate a unique opportunity to shape operational risk management at Athora. The right candidate will be a functional lead in their own area of expertise and an individual contributor embedding operational risk management within the group teams and overseeing and aligning operational risk management and internal controls across Athora. The candidate will impact operational risk management within the Business Units through managing an operational risk network within Athora. The candidate will oversee and align the other local entity operational risk teams through close collaboration with these teams and the local CROs.
Key Contribution Areas
Group Operational Risk Management responsibilities:Setting the Operational Risk Policies, including Operational Risk limits and KRIs, and ensuring compliance
Leading the Athora Internal Control Framework strategic direction and overseeing implementation in both the Group Functions and the Business Units
Producing effective and efficient Group Operational Risk Reporting, including risk register, risk events, KRIs, effectiveness of material operational risk internal controls, 2nd line review of group outsourcing arrangements
Setting the agenda for the Operational Risk Working Group
Presenting effective operational risk reporting to the relevant committees on a quarterly basis
Recommend actions to optimise the group operational risk capital requirement and monitor progress
Direct operational risk event management for the Group Functions, including response to risk events and maintenance of the risk event register and risk event reporting
Contribution to the Group Solvency Self-Assessment process (i.e. Group ORSA) relating to Operational Risk and Internal Control
Ensure effective oversight of the IT Risk team activities and recommend actions and improvements as required
Promote awareness of risk culture and contribute to risk culture initiatives, including providing operational risk training
Contribute to the business continuity and operational resilience activities at group including any group incident response teams
Operational risk 'horizon scanning' to identify potential threats, risks, emerging issues, and opportunities. Including the gathering, analysing, and disseminating of this information to provide value-add and support decision making
Propose and lead Operational Risk projects and initiatives as needed
Group wide Operational Risk Management oversight and alignment responsibilities:Oversee, support, and challenge both the Business Units and Group Functions implementation of the Athora Operational Risk Policies and Internal Control Framework, including providing group-wide tools and processes where necessary
Be a key point of contact for the Chief Risk Officers in local entities with regards operational risk management, internal control, and oversight of outsourced services
Establish an Operational Risk Management Network across Athora Group to promote consistency and best practice sharing
Maintain appropriate Operational Risk and Outsourcing processes, tools, and templates to support consistent risk management in these areas
Oversight of Business Unit Operational Risk Reporting (including KRIs) and RCSA Plans
Expert support to the Business Units as needed including implementing the Operational Risk Policies and Internal Control Framework

Functional or Technical Knowledge and Skill RequiredPRMIA Operational Risk Management Certificate, or equivalent
5 to 10 years' experience working in operational risk management within an international business environment
Experience of working within and development of Risk Management Frameworks
Proficiency using SAI 360
Knowledge of Solvency II and / or Bermuda Monetary Authority regulations a distinct advantage
Computer literature - Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Visio
