Join ALTEN UK's expanding

Defence Electronics

team in

Northern Ireland

, working on

mission-critical hardware

that powers next-generation aerospace and defence platforms. You'll take designs from concept through to production, contributing to high-integrity systems where performance, safety, and reliability are paramount. This role offers the opportunity to shape the foundation of our new Belfast engineering hub, collaborating with some of the UK's most advanced defence programmes.

Seniority:

5+ years' experience

Key Responsibilities:



Lead

electronic design and development

activities across

digital and analogue

domains, including schematic capture, simulation, and design-for-manufacture checks. Deliver across the full

PCB development lifecycle

- from requirements capture through layout and prototype bring-up to product release. Support

EMC and environmental compliance

, working closely with test teams to investigate and resolve design issues. Perform

lab-based debugging

, using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and other measurement tools to identify and root-cause hardware issues. Collaborate with

Systems, Firmware, and Manufacturing

teams to ensure seamless hardware integration and product maturity. Participate in design reviews, ensure traceability to requirements, and uphold

high standards of quality and reliability

.


Qualifications

Required Skills:



Strong background in

analogue and digital circuit design

(schematic capture, simulation, component selection). Experience across the

PCB design lifecycle

, including layout review and hardware bring-up. Knowledge of

IPC standards

and

EMC/ENV design principles

. Skilled in

hardware debug, test instrumentation, and fault diagnosis

. Awareness of

requirements management

,

configuration control

, and

design documentation

best practices.

Desirable Skills:



Experience with

Altium Designer

,

Mentor Graphics

, or similar ECAD tools. Understanding of

signal integrity

,

power electronics

, or

mixed-signal systems

. Familiarity with

safety-critical or high-reliability

hardware design environments (e.g. aerospace, defence, or energy). Exposure to

hardware-software integration

and embedded systems verification. Practical experience supporting

environmental qualification

or

EMC testing

.

Required Qualifications:



Must be eligible for or already hold

UK Security Clearance (SC)

A Bachelor's degree in

Electronics

,

Electrical Engineering

, or a related field

OR

A relevant background in UK Armed Forces with equivalent hands-on engineering experience.
