As Head Barista, you will be responsible for upholding and improving the quality of our coffee, supporting the team, maintaining consistency across venues, and setting the tone for excellent customer service and operational standards.
This role requires strong leadership, hands-on support, and a proactive approach to team development, cleanliness, and stock oversight.
Key Responsibilities
Coffee Quality & Counter Operations
Ensure consistency and excellence in coffee preparation and presentation across venues
Lead recipe dial-ins, calibration, and daily quality control checks
Mentor, support, and upskill other baristas in coffee technique, latte art, workflow, and customer service
Troubleshoot and resolve issues with machinery, workflow, or team execution
Venue Leadership & Team Support
Be the key point of support for baristas across Oatley Coffee and any future venues.
Train new hires and support onboarding with Oatley Coffee standards
Cleanliness & Presentation
Maintain a clean and organised workspace at all times
Ensure cleaning checklists are followed and consistently upheld by all staff
Lead by example in keeping the bar, cafe floor, and equipment clean and presentable
Stock & Inventory Management
Complete regular stock checks and ensure accurate ordering and restocking for coffee, milk, food, cleaning supplies, and consumables across Oatley Coffee and future venues
Ensure efficient storage, rotation, and use of perishable items to minimise waste
Proactively report supplier issues to management
Customer Experience & Brand Standards
Ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for all customers
Lead any customer service issues and resolve promptly where possible
Build relationships with regulars and represent the brand in line with our values of community, connection, and coffee.
Training & SOP Implementation
Ensure all staff follow Oatley Coffee's SOPs (standard operating procedures) across service, hygiene, and coffee quality
Help roll out new menu items, procedures, or systems across Oatley Coffee and any future venues
Support consistent implementation and training when changes are introduced
Team Development
Help identify training needs among team members
Contribute to a positive work culture through encouragement, consistency, and communication
New Venue Support
Assist with new venue launches as needed, including:
Equipment setup and counter layout (optional)
Training staff prior to launch
Ensuring opening-day standards are met
