Heath Street Bakehouse is a beloved independent coffee shop and bakery located in Hampstead. We take pride in offering thoughtfully sourced brunch, handcrafted coffee, freshly baked pastries made on-site, and an evolving small plates menu for evening dinner service (Thurs-Fri).

The Role

We are hiring a

Head Barista / Shift Lead

who will play a vital role in the day-to-day running of the cafe. You'll be responsible for maintaining high standards in coffee preparation, customer service, team morale, and operational flow -- especially during shifts when management is off-site.

This is an ideal role for someone ready to step up, take ownership, and bring ideas to the table. You'll be empowered to lead and supported to grow.

Key Responsibilities

Run and oversee daily cafe operations in collaboration with the owner, management and kitchen team. Ensure consistent quality in coffee, food, and service across all shifts. Work alongside management to support staff on shift -- including feedback and guidance, and creating a positive team atmosphere. Be the first point of contact for customer concerns, maintaining excellent service standards and conflict resolution. Open and close the shop, including stock handling, QC reporting, and prepping the space. Manage stock levels front-of-house supplies -- including helping management place orders and monitoring waste Work directly alongside the owner and management for contributing ideas for improving workflow, menu development, customer experience, or service practices. Uphold high standards of cleanliness, health & safety, and food hygiene at all times.

What We're Looking For

Experience:

Minimum 1-2 years as a senior barista, shift supervisor, or similar leadership role in a specialty coffee or hospitality environment.

Skills:

Exceptional espresso and milk steaming skills, confident with dial-ins and brew recipes. Strong multitasking, communication, and customer care skills.

Leadership:

Positive and approachable attitude, with the ability to support a small team.

Mindset:

Passionate, responsible, and proactive -- someone who treats the business like their own.

Bonus:

Experience with brunch, pastries, or small-plate food service environment

Availability:

Must be able to work at least one weekend day and cover early morning or evening shifts as needed.

Pay: 13.38-14.50 per hour
