Job Description

We are offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly-skilled Mechatronics and Systems engineer with an overall system focus to have a pivotal role in the overseeing and development of our medical devices. As a fast-growing startup developing a regulated medical device combining hardware, firmware, software, pneumatics and user-facing interface technology, this role requires a systems-level oversight of these disciplines. The ideal candidate will also be a hands-on technical leader who can own the full product development lifecycle through our product launches. From concept through to design transfer, verification & validation, manufacturing and post-market support, you will work closely with internal engineers, external development partners and manufacturing teams to bring fully integrated products to market and into the hands of people for whom they will be transformative.

We've seen this first-hand as our first product, EasyOver, is inspired by a close family member of the founder who has Parkinson's. Healthcare systems globally need innovative technologies created for and with the people using them so that high quality care for the growing number of people requiring it can continue.

Position Overview



It is an exciting time to join us, taking a mature design of our cutting-edge medical device and playing a crucial role in bringing it to market. In this role you will own the full technical lifecycle, ensuring the product is delivered on time, on budget, and to specification. You will manage a multidisciplinary team across software, hardware, soft robotics, and electronics. The role includes driving the development roadmap, managing risks, and working closely with manufacturers and suppliers to transition the product from prototype to production and aftercare.

Key Responsibilities



Lead and coordinate full product development across hardware, firmware, software and mechanical systems Serve as technical owner to oversee the device architecture and system design Manage and review work from the internal engineering team and external engineering partners Define and run verification, validation and integration testing for electro-mechanical systems Oversee requirements definition, design documentation and risk management to be compliant with medical standards such as ISO 13485 and IEC 60601 Ensure design traceability, change control and DHF (Design History File) completeness Support regulatory submissions (UKCA/CE/MDR, FDA optional) Work with manufacturing partners to support DFM, BOM management and scale-up Report progress, risks and mitigation strategies to founders/leadership team Establish good engineering culture, documentation standards, and design processes

Essential Skills & Experience



Proven experience delivering complex multi-disciplinary products (preferably regulated devices) Experience in best manufacturing practices across some or all disciplines Experience in bringing a hardware product through from early stage to market ready Strong systems engineering understanding across some or all of:
- Embedded firmware (C/C++ on MCU, RTOS)
- Electronics & PCB design
- Electro-mechanical systems (pumps, valves, stepper motors, pneumatics)
- Software/UI development on SBC (e.g. Windows IOT, Linux, Qt/Python, touchscreen UI)

Experience working under ISO 13485 (or similar regulated QMS - aerospace, automotive etc.) Familiarity with design controls, risk management (ISO 14971), traceability and documentation Ability to create, manage and engineering specifications, requirements and test plans Familiarity with CAD / mechanical design experience (SolidWorks or similar) Experience working with outside suppliers, contractors or manufacturing partners Strong problem-solving mindset and willingness to get hands-on in the lab/workshop Excellent communication skills - able to translate between engineering and non-technical stakeholders Proven success leading high-performing engineering teams

Desirable / Nice to Have



Experience bringing a medical device from concept through to certification & market launch Bring a deep technical knowledge and hands-on experience of electronics Prior startup or small company experience (comfortable wearing multiple hats)

Education / Background



Degree in Systems, Electronics, Mechatronics, Biomedical, Mechanical or related field (PhD/Master's beneficial but not required) Equivalent industry experience strongly considered in lieu of degree
