Roles and Responsibilities



Roasting & Production

Roast coffees to defined profiles, balancing consistency with seasonal adjustments. Develop and document roast profiles for all coffees. Oversee production planning: batch scheduling, blend formulation, order fulfilment. Manage and delegate to the roasting assistant; ensure training and cover. Monitor and maintain roasting equipment (cleaning, servicing schedules).
Green Coffee Sourcing

Evaluate and select coffees in line with quality, sustainability, and brand values. Manage green coffee contracts, spot buying, and forward planning. Monitor stock levels and forecast needs to ensure supply continuity. Oversee logistics: shipping, warehousing, and delivery timelines. Build and maintain relationships with importers, producers, and cooperatives.
Quality Control & Sensory

Cup incoming samples and production roasts regularly to maintain quality. Define flavour profiles and set roast style/targets that align with brand identity. Develop and maintain QC protocols (cupping sheets, brew recipes, sensory tracking). Lead staff cupping/training sessions to embed quality culture in the team. Investigate and troubleshoot quality issues (e.g. roast defects, brew consistency).
Operations & Compliance

Ensure health & safety, food safety, and traceability systems are in place. Keep accurate records of roast logs, stock, and traceability (for audits and compliance). Manage costs of goods sold (COGS) and work within budgetary constraints. Work closely with the operations manager on production scheduling.
Customer & Industry Engagement

Support wholesale staff and partners with coffee knowledge, training, and QC support. Deliver educational sessions (cuppings, workshops, talks) internally and externally. Act as an ambassador for the business in the wider coffee community.
Driving license required
