Head of Commemorations



Location

: Maidenhead, with a minimum of 2 days a week in the office

Contract Type

: Permanent

Salary

: Starting from 56,000 per annum, depending upon skills and experience

Hours

: Full Time, 37 hours per week, Mon - Fri

What you'll be doing



This is a fundamental role within our organisation and requires an experienced individual with the full breadth of leadership and technical skills as detailed. You will be driving our future Commemoration strategy, but at the same time, leading and managing a highly motivated and specialist team in the delivery of sensitive commemorative casework; you will ensure accuracy, integrity, and compassion in everything from the identification of human remains to record amendments and reburials.


Working closely with Member Governments and international partners, you will manage complex investigations and provide expert policy guidance across the organisation, ensuring each case is handled with care and in line with established procedures.


You'll also be responsible for maintaining our pivotal casualty data systems and ensuring information is accurate and up to date. You will drive continuous improvement, championing innovation and technology to streamline processes and enhance service.


You will also play a key role in strategic projects, contributing specialist knowledge and supporting the delivery of organisational goals. Representing your unique team across the CWGC and the also the organisation at public events, academic forums, and briefings, you'll help shape commemorative practice and ensure those who served are remembered.

What you need to have





Expert knowledge of 20th and 21st century military organisations, their histories, structures, ranks and records Knowledge of databases, archives, and research methodologies Demonstrable experience in a policy and complex case work role Demonstrable management and team leadership skills Excellent organisational skills with a proven attention to detail Committed to continuous professional development

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission is an organisation dedicated to honouring and caring for the graves and memorials of servicemembers who died in the two World Wars. The work of the commission is not only out on the field, but at our headquarters too, which contributes to the meaningful commemoration of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
