About the Role
The Head of Commercial Projects, Audit & Training is responsible for the function and team for the end-to-end delivery of high-value, (20 million ea +) complex fuel infrastructure projects from strategic tender origination and commercial structuring to operational execution and risk-optimised contract management while simultaneously driving large-scale internal business transformation initiatives that redefine commercial capabilities and market positioning. These large-scale change initiatives demand systems thinking to diagnose interdependencies, change leadership to mobilise stakeholders, and the ability to design scalable frameworks for lasting impact.
This role demands expert-level command of multi-disciplinary project lifecycles from infrastructure to commercial transformation, ensuring seamless integration between engineering, supply chain, operational, legal and commercial teams to deploy bespoke on-site fuel solutions for major infrastructure projects (e.g., Hinkley Point C, BBV, Sizewell C). It requires deep fluency in fuel market regulations, contract negotiation, advanced contract risk mitigation, and the ability to orchestrate cross-functional stakeholders under high-stakes, high-visibility engagements in both major projects and transformation.
Concurrently, the role owns the audit and training function and team, applying detailed analysis of commercial sales KPIs (e.g., margin leakage, CRM hygiene) to enforce discipline and inject continuous improvement via targeted upskilling. This dual mandate balancing long-term strategic projects with real-time commercial rigour demands expertise in both macro-level business architecture and micro-level operational execution.
This position demands skilled proficiency of complex, multi-stakeholder environments, balancing tactical leadership of multi-million-pound contracts with the strategic development of biofuels and low-carbon fuel initiatives, all while upholding the highest standards of safety, audit/training compliance, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a project team for the end-to-end delivery of high-value fuel infrastructure projects (e.g., Hinkley Point C, BBV, Peel Ports, Sizewell C), from tender origination and commercial negotiation to operational execution and risk management.
  • Ensure seamless integration of engineering, logistics, and commercial teams to deploy on-site fuel solutions that meet complex client requirements.
  • Optimise contract performance, identifying opportunities for margin enhancement and risk mitigation across multi-million-pound agreements
  • Lead enterprise-wide transformation programs, including sales model redesigns, digital tool implementation (e.g., CRM/CPT enhancements), and low-carbon fuel adoption (e.g., biofuels, HVO)
  • Drive compliance with evolving regulations while identifying commercial opportunities (e.g., carbon credit linkages).
  • Spearhead any post-M&A integration, harmonising systems, teams, and processes to deliver synergies
  • Lead a team of auditors and trainers to monitor and elevate sales force effectiveness, ensuring adherence to KPIs (e.g., call handling, CRM hygiene, margin protection).
  • Conduct root-cause analysis of performance gaps and implement corrective actions (e.g., targeted training, process adjustments).
  • Enforce data governance standards, ensuring CRM integrity for accurate pipeline tracking and compliance.
  • Own the commercial business's financial performance by ensuring audit and training interventions directly safeguard budget integrity. Commercial success hinges on the function's effectiveness; without rigorous sales compliance, margin protection, and skill development, revenue targets and profitability cannot be achieved.
  • Align C-suite, engineering teams, legal, commercial and sales forces behind project and transformation goals, navigating complex stakeholder landscapes

  • Deep understanding of end-to-end project lifecycle: Must possess deep expertise in PRINCE2 Agile methodologies for large-scale infrastructure project delivery, combined with comprehensive knowledge of fuels market dynamics, commercial contract frameworks (NEC 3&4 / supply and distribution contracts), and CRM/data governance systems.
  • A strong grasp of sales performance diagnostics, margin optimisation strategies, and audit compliance tools is critical, alongside proficiency in business transformation (change management, M&A integration) and low-carbon fuel standards (ISCC, RSB)
  • Additional familiarity with sales analytics, low carbon supply chains (Dev fuels, HVO Hydrogen) and decarbonisation pathways will ensure future-ready leadership.
