Head of Commercial Projects, Audit & Training
About the Role
The Head of Commercial Projects, Audit & Training is responsible for the function and team for the end-to-end delivery of high-value, (20 million ea +) complex fuel infrastructure projects from strategic tender origination and commercial structuring to operational execution and risk-optimised contract management while simultaneously driving large-scale internal business transformation initiatives that redefine commercial capabilities and market positioning. These large-scale change initiatives demand systems thinking to diagnose interdependencies, change leadership to mobilise stakeholders, and the ability to design scalable frameworks for lasting impact.
This role demands expert-level command of multi-disciplinary project lifecycles from infrastructure to commercial transformation, ensuring seamless integration between engineering, supply chain, operational, legal and commercial teams to deploy bespoke on-site fuel solutions for major infrastructure projects (e.g., Hinkley Point C, BBV, Sizewell C). It requires deep fluency in fuel market regulations, contract negotiation, advanced contract risk mitigation, and the ability to orchestrate cross-functional stakeholders under high-stakes, high-visibility engagements in both major projects and transformation.
Concurrently, the role owns the audit and training function and team, applying detailed analysis of commercial sales KPIs (e.g., margin leakage, CRM hygiene) to enforce discipline and inject continuous improvement via targeted upskilling. This dual mandate balancing long-term strategic projects with real-time commercial rigour demands expertise in both macro-level business architecture and micro-level operational execution.
This position demands skilled proficiency of complex, multi-stakeholder environments, balancing tactical leadership of multi-million-pound contracts with the strategic development of biofuels and low-carbon fuel initiatives, all while upholding the highest standards of safety, audit/training compliance, and operational excellence.
