With plans to see SP Energy Networks (SPEN), part of the ScottishPower Group, look to invest over 10bn in transmission projects across our transmission network in central and southern Scotland by 2030, the Commercial team will play a key role in enabling SPEN to work at pace to deliver the transmission network that is required to achieve Scottish and UK Government 2030 targets.

As a Head of Commercial, you will be accountable for leading innovative commercial strategy, managing and maintaining SPTs commercial interests to deliver our portfolio of investment in the transmission networks. Positions are available in our HVDC, Strategic and Core portfolio teams. You will support the delivery of annual capital budget of up to 400m+.
The Commercial team will work closely with the Project teams to deliver the commercial terms of the contracts, working collaboratively with our contractors and partners. There will be close alignment with the Supply Chain function, including reporting on contracts and carrying thorough lessons learned and continuous improvement at project / portfolio level.
Within this position, you will:Implement commercial contracting strategies that drive value, innovation, and market competition while ensuring alignment with business and regulatory objectives.
Continuously lead and manage a portfolio of high value contracts through the project lifecycle overseeing all contract KPIs, variations and contract closure.
Implement and execute project-specific commercial strategies that balance cost, risk, and supplier engagement to maximise value and efficiency by driving continuous improvement
Work collaboratively across the Portfolio and wider commercial functions to ensure consistency and delivery of works at the required pace.
Manage contract and commercial risk within projects and provide expert support in commercial execution, and where necessary, dispute resolution.
Lead, develop and motivate a high performing team comprising of a range of contract managers and quantity surveyors.
Ensure effective commercial risk management across SPT and mitigation strategies are monitored and implemented. Provide risk management expertise to SPT through the deployment of sophisticated commercial risk management analysis and techniques.
Foster an inclusive and collaborative environment which promotes diversity across the team.
Provide visible and influential leadership for SPT. Developing and maintain a strong working relationship across SPEN/Scottish Power/Iberdrola up to executive level and with our partners, suppliers, contractors and other key parties at a senior level.
What you'll bring Leadership*: Proven track record of successfully leading and managing commercial teams and developing a team with significant growth and organisational change.
Contract Management and negotiation*: Experience of negotiating and managing high value contracts through different contracting mechanisms and maintaining constructive commercial relationships.
Commercial*: In-depth commercial and contractual knowledge and experience for different contracting models (primarily NEC 4 and/or FIDIC).
Strategic*: Experience in strategic commercial engagement, management, negotiation and dispute resolution.
Communication*: Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
As a minimum, you will demonstrate a degree qualified in a relevant area with proven high value commercial experience and professional accreditation such as MRICS or equivalent.What's in it for you
