Based in the heart of the Black Country, Meridian Steel Limited is one of the UK's largest premium stockholders and processors, specialising in strip mill, hot rolled coil processing and the supply of pre-painted steel. Our Dudley and Sheffield sites annually provide over 150,000mt of high-quality steel, supplying multiple industries across Europe.

Role Description: Head of Department - Hot Rolled

The Head of Department is responsible for leading, managing, and developing the department to ensure it achieves its strategic objectives. This role involves overseeing staff performance, budget management, operational efficiency, and fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy

Develop and implement departmental strategies aligned with the organization's goals.

Provide leadership and direction to departmental staff.

Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Operational Management

Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

Monitor departmental KPIs and performance metrics.

Ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations, and standards.

Team Development

Recruit, train, and mentor staff within the department.

Conduct performance reviews and support professional development.

Foster a positive and inclusive working environment.

Budget & Resource Management

Prepare and manage the departmental budget.

Allocate resources effectively to meet operational needs.

Monitor expenditures and ensure cost-effective practices.

Stakeholder Engagement

Collaborate with other departments and senior leadership.

Represent the department in meetings and strategic discussions.

Build relationships with external partners and stakeholders.

Key

Skills & Qualifications

Proven experience in B2B sales of steel products. Strong understanding of hot rolled steel sheet applications and specifications. Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite. Analytical mindset with a problem-solving attitude. Willingness to travel across the UK/Europe.
