Job Description

This role is ideal for an Electronics Engineer with leadership experience or an established Electronics Leader who is looking to scale their leadership scope and impact. In this role you will define the organisation and processes for Electronics Engineering at CMR. You will be a key stakeholder in setting, refining and executing our product roadmap across both near term and longer term horizons. In this role, your contributions will be highly visible, shaping technology that directly impacts patient outcomes


This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with a minimum of 3 days a week being based in the office.

At CMR, our mission is to transform surgery for millions ofpatients worldwide. As Head of Electronics, youll have ownership of strategicfunction at CMR. In this highly visible role, you will be making criticaldesign decisions on our disruptive surgical robotic platform. Youll combinehands-on technical expertise with inspirational leadership, mentoringcolleagues and helping to guide the future direction of our electronicscapability.

What youll do

Lead the Electronics function atCMR, including line management for a team of highly capable engineers. Workingwith the Head of System Development, to ensure the Electronics teams organisationdesign and processes are optimised to deliver an ambitious product roadmap. Develop, refine and own robustdevelopment practices that ensure consistent, reliable and high-quality compliantoutputs, drawing on your previous experience. Collaborate with leaders and colleaguesin mechanical, software, systems, test, manufacturing and supply chain toevolve the system architecture and deliver well integrated modular solutions. Lead and contribute to the designand development of electronic subsystems across power, digital, analogue,programmable logic and RF technologies. Mentor and coach electronicsengineers, from junior to senior level, providing guidance on design practices,problem-solving, technical reviews and personal development. Provide technical oversight andreview of relevant design artefacts, for example PCB, cable assembly and power system designsto ensure robustness, reliability and compliance. Review technical documents,including specifications and test plans, that form part of the medical devicetechnical file. Champion improvements to ways ofworking, lab facilities, equipment and tools to ensure the electronics team hasthe resources needed to deliver effectively. Support recruitment, training, andretention of electronics engineers to support company growth and the functionsneeds.

What were looking for

Essentialtechnical expertise



Broad foundation in electronics design with workingknowledge of the majority of: + Motor drive circuits (1100 A)
+ Low-voltage power supplies (1 V 240 V, 500 mW 1 kW)
+ FPGA designs (25500 MHz)
+ Analogue sensor interfaces (?V to mV)
+ High-speed communications (up to 10 Gbit/s)
+ Embedded microprocessors and control systems
Strong experience of delivering Electronics to market withinMedical Devices (i.e. ISO13485 and IEC60601 and similar standards anddirectives) Full lifecycle experience from concept to transfer tomanufacture Experience establishing DFx principles, and owningcollaborations electronics partners including contract design, test and manufacturers.

Leadership& collaboration



Demonstrated experience of mentoring and leading engineersin a cross-discipline environment. Skilled at building collaborative relationships across internaldepartments and with external partners. Excellent communication skills, able to adapt style fordiverse audiences and perspectives. Enthusiasm for developing people and fostering an inclusiveteam environment. Able to champion process improvements and drive positivechange.

Qualifications& experience



Degree or comparable experience in Electronics Engineering. Experience leading electronics projects and/or functions withina wider multi-disciplinary programme. Experience in medical devices working understanding of60601 as a minimum Experience from high-reliability sectors (telecoms, defence,industrial automation) also welcome.
