Aston Martin Performance Technologies (AMPT) Special Projects

is the advanced engineering division of the Aston Martin Racing Performance Group.



AMPT Special Projects applies Formula One(TM) derived high-performance engineering, innovation, technical expertise, and breakthrough technologies to deliver leading-edge programmes outside of Formula One(TM).



With a portfolio spanning both automotive and non-automotive sectors, AMPT Special Projects is now seeking a

Head of Engineering

to lead and develop this multidisciplinary engineering function. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of advanced engineering within a growing organisation and to play a key role in delivering pioneering projects across diverse sectors.

Key Responsibilities



Function Development & Leadership

Establish and implement a formalised multi-discipline engineering function (mechanical and composite design, fluid dynamics, structures, modelling, optimisation, etc.) Assess existing practices and resource coverage, identify capability gaps, and define future requirements. Develop and embed scalable, sector-leading processes and systems to support programme delivery and long-term growth.

Strategic Leadership

Define and deliver the engineering strategy in alignment with AMPT Special Projects' business objectives. Drive the development of tools, processes, and practices to ensure high-quality, efficient, and innovative engineering delivery. Identify and plan for future capability requirements to support sustainable growth.

Team Leadership & Development

Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team across a range of disciplines. Build on existing strengths while developing new technical capabilities. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Programme Delivery

Provide senior oversight of engineering delivery across a diverse portfolio of projects. Ensure robust planning, execution, and technical governance. Act as a key point of escalation for engineering challenges.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with operations, delivery, commercial, and programme teams to ensure effective integration. Promote strong communication and alignment across all technical and delivery workstreams.

Resource & Budget Management

Support the effective allocation of people, materials, and time across programmes. Contribute to operational budgeting and forecasting, identifying opportunities for efficiency and cost optimisation


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise





Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Automotive, or related field). Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent is advantageous. Significant experience in a senior engineering leadership role within Formula One, top-level motorsport, or high-performance engineering/technology organisations. Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering complex engineering projects from concept to completion. Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on technical delivery when required. Strong financial acumen, with experience managing departmental budgets and delivering cost-effective engineering outcomes. Awareness of compliance and industry standards relevant to advanced engineering and manufacturing environments. Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Resilient, adaptable, and thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments. Passionate about technical innovation, engineering excellence, and building a world-class engineering culture.
