Job Description

Accountable to the Business Unit Director, the Head of Engineering a key player in the STG Aerospace NPI Team with overall responsibility for strategic and operational engineering matters.

Specifically, the key success of this role is the proven ability to provide management of our current and future business critical engineering projects and Engineers, whilst managing the expectations of our key stakeholders.

The ability to lead, inspire and motivate is essential.

Successfully operating at both strategic and operational level, strong personal credibility to influence key stakeholders is critical.

Role holder must demonstrate the ability to use their initiative, remain tenacious, decisive and calm under pressure, whilst meeting exacting deadlines.

A desire and passion for continuous improvement is expected.

Min Duties & Responsibilities

Set the Engineering vision/strategic direction and lead, inspire and motivate the Engineering team to deliver innovative designs, to achieve our ambitious growth plans.

Overall responsibility for taking products from concept design to a successful launch into the market place.

Ensure the Engineering team defines, delivers and supports competitive validated designs and technical solutions that satisfy project requirements to deliver against our corporate plan and 5 year strategies.

Responsible for ensuring all Engineering project deliverables meet their quality, cost and delivery targets.

Responsible for technical and safety standards, overseeing projects through the execution phase of projects and at final delivery to ensure compliance with customer requirements.

Ensure all Configuration Management Procedures are implemented and followed to ensure that all activities within the Engineering Function are fully compliant with the quality management system

Well established knowledge and experience of the functional development processes, project management, hardware, software, mechanical, test, validation and certification.

Promote an environment of continuous improvement.

The ability to work together with Sales & Marketing to establish a vision and road map for our future products, thinking laterally and understanding how technologies in other industries can be adapted and applied to new products.

Review, maintain and develop engineering tools and processes that meet current and future group level business requirements.

Understand and appropriately resource and allocate the engineering team to meet customer and business requirements.

Identify Engineering skills and capability gaps within the team and implement appropriate strategies to enhance and develop these (focusing both on present and future demands).

Develop and maintain influential relationships with key stakeholders within the Head's Up technologies Group, ensuring engineering projects are planned and implemented successfully.

Experience/Skills

Experience in Aerospace desirable

Experience operating in a senior engineering leadership role with responsibilities for creating strategy/vision, setting objectives, delivery of plans, forecasting, budgeting and decision making

Exposure to and understanding of design for manufacture, and associated processes.

Outstanding proven leadership skills, with responsibility for a small/medium sized team. Ability to motivate, inspire and develop a team of engineers to deliver on key deliverables.

Proven understanding of engineering requirements

Experience in driving business and cultural change and developing and structuring a team.

High attention to detail, as well as ability to contribute to and craft top-line strategic vision; ability to work at both strategic and operational level
