About the Role



Complete classroom service is working with a SEN school to recruit for Head of Estates to oversee the management, maintenance, and development of all school premises within the group. You will ensure that buildings and facilities are safe, compliant, and fit for purpose while driving improvements across multiple sites. The post holder will manage site caretaking teams, contractors, and estates-related budgets to deliver outstanding value and service quality.

Key Responsibilities



Strategic Estates Management



Develop and implement a group-wide estates strategy aligned with operational and growth priorities. Maintain an estates condition register to identify and prioritise maintenance and improvement works. Oversee lifecycle and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules for all buildings and assets. Provide expert advice on feasibility, design, and delivery of capital projects, refurbishments, and new sites.

Compliance and Health & Safety



Ensure full statutory compliance across all sites (fire safety, water hygiene, asbestos, electrical, PAT testing, etc.). Maintain accurate compliance documentation and records. Conduct and monitor regular risk assessments and site audits, addressing issues promptly. Serve as the responsible person for emergency planning, site safety, and health & safety compliance.

Caretaking and Site Team Oversight



Lead, support, and develop caretaking teams across all schools. Implement consistent standard operating procedures for caretaking, cleaning, and site management. Ensure caretakers are trained, resourced, and equipped to maintain safe and efficient site operations. Monitor staff deployment, performance, and service quality across locations.

Contract and Supplier Management



Manage key service contracts including cleaning, security, waste disposal, and grounds maintenance. Oversee procurement and ensure contractor performance delivers value for money and quality outcomes. Ensure all contractors are fully vetted and comply with safeguarding and site safety requirements.

Budget Management and Resource Planning



Work closely with the CFO to plan and monitor estates budgets across the group. Control spending, capital investment, and resource allocation efficiently. Plan for long-term maintenance and capital investment in line with the estate's strategy.

Cross-Functional Responsibilities



Advise senior leaders and operational teams on estates and facilities matters. Contribute to emergency planning, crisis response, and business continuity procedures. Build strong relationships with local authorities, contractors, and external partners. Uphold the mission, values, and professional standards of the school

Essential:



Proven experience in estates or facilities management, ideally across multiple sites. In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and statutory compliance within education or public sector settings.

Desirable:



Health & Safety qualification (NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent). Experience managing capital projects or major refurbishments. Understanding of safeguarding procedures within an educational environment.
