One of the UK's most inspiring and best-known faith-based organisations, The Salvation Army, is looking to recruit a Head of Finance Systems.


The Head of Finance Systems, and the team they lead, will be responsible for the management, support, maintenance, control, and ongoing development of The Salvation Army's finance system (Unit4 ERP). This role ensures the system operates efficiently for approximately 6,000 users, maintaining high availability, data integrity, and system security while supporting the organisation's financial operations.


The Salvation Army operates a Unit4 ERP finance system with significant functionality, including full P2P and expenses, fixed assets, reporting tools, and workflow. The Head of Finance Systems leads and manages finance system enhancements, ensuring seamless integration with other business applications, and ensuring compliance with financial and regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate(s) will be able to demonstrate:



Extensive experience of working successfully in a similar Finance Systems job role, at a senior level within a large and complex organisation Subject matter expertise with both technical knowledge and experience of successfully managing and developing complex finance systems, ideally Unit4 ERP, including system architecture, configuration, customisation, and integration capabilities Advanced proficiency in financial reporting tools and database management (e.g. SQL, Excelerator, Power BI, or similar) Excellent understanding of relevant financial compliance, controls, and risk management requirements as they relate to finance systems Strong knowledge of financial compliance and reporting requirements specific to not-for-profit organisations Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrable ability to improve existing processes and procedures to positively influence performance and outcomes Demonstrable strong experience in project managing the full life cycle of finance systems including procurement, system development, implementation, managing third-party providers, and ongoing operational improvement Proven strong financial management skills with previous experience of managing budgets, developing spending plans, and delivering financial reporting as required Demonstrable excellent communication (written, verbal, and presentational) and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to convey complex information effectively with the intention of influencing decision making at all levels of seniority within an organisation Proven strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate employees and teams, identify and nurture talent, manage performance effectively, and foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment
