L3Harris in Tewkesbury and Fleet are part of our Intelligence & Cyber International (ICI) division. We work closely with UK Government and Security Agencies primarily in the areas of crypto/cyber security, electronic warfare, counter drone capabilities and situation awareness projects.

We are seeking a talented and seasoned Hardware Engineering Manager to lead our hardware development team in the design and development of cutting-edge electronic products. As the Hardware Engineering Manager, you will oversee the electronics, PCB, mechanical, and FPGA development processes, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality hardware solutions. With development teams in the UK, US and Australia our capabilities support our customers with Electronic Warfare, Integrated Air Defence & Information Resilience missions. This is a critical leadership role that requires technical expertise across multiple disciplines, strong managerial skills, and a passion for innovation.

What the role will involve

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:
  • Lead and inspire a team of hardware engineers across the ICI business areas, specializing in electronics, PCB, mechanical, and FPGA development.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical expertise to team members, promoting their professional growth and development.
  • Define goals and objectives for the team, aligning them with the company\'s overall strategic objectives.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and address any performance issues effectively.
  • Plan, recruit, prioritize, and allocate resources effectively to ensure successful execution of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Provide governance, monitor project progress, identify potential risks and issues, and proactively implement mitigation strategies.
  • Support collation and review of technical bid responses & engineering estimates
  • Architect hardware solutions to support bid responses and to ensure modern, maintainable solutions.
  • Ensure adherence to design standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices for hardware development.
  • Build strong working relationships with corporate functional engineering managers to share and leverage training, processes, tools and best practice.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the team, assisting with complex problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Create a culture of innovation, encouraging the exploration of new technologies and methodologies to enhance hardware development efficiency and quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure a seamless and integrated hardware development process.
  • Coordinate with other departments, such as manufacturing and operations, to ensure successful product launches and smooth production transitions.
  • Foster effective communication within the team, promoting knowledge sharing, open dialogue, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Provide thought leadership in industry and customer collaboration forums.

The role of Hardware Engineering Manager requires the following experience and skills:
  • Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience in hardware development, with expertise in electronics, PCB, mechanical, and FPGA design.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in a leadership or managerial role, overseeing hardware development teams.
  • Strong technical background and knowledge in hardware design principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in hardware design tools and software, such as Altium, Xpedition, Cadence, or similar tools.
  • Experience with FPGA development tools, such as Xilinx or Altera/Intel Quartus.
  • Familiarity with mechanical design principles, thermal management, and enclosure design.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards for electronic products.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
