This is a newly created position reporting directly to the Chief Executive and forming a key part of the Foundation's executive leadership team, which includes the Chief Executive, Chief Financial Officer, Director of Property, Head of HR, and Clerk to the Governors.
The primary focus of the role is to lead and coordinate the implementation of the Foundation's new strategic plan, ensuring that all activities align with the organisation's charitable objectives. The role will also play a pivotal part in strengthening risk management and compliance practices across the Foundation, supporting robust governance and operational resilience..
Responsibilities
Strategy implementation and business planning:
In collaboration with leads, translate strategic objectives into operational plans, collaborating with teams to develop a business plan setting out how the Foundation and its component bodies will implement the Foundation's new strategy - and what outcomes will be delivered.
Work to maximise the impact of our charitable support under the foundation's charitable objectives of education and care.
Oversee the roll-out of sub-strategies in specific portfolios (e.g. care strategy) to clearly demonstrate how they deliver the charity's purpose, and how the Foundation is creating impact.
Programme development:
Work closely with teams across the Foundation to develop and refine initiatives that enhance the organisation's impact.
Improve efficiency and value for money considerations across proposals and programmes.
Support targeted initiatives that help further our impact across Foundation's strategic objectives of education, care and place (such as sustainability impact, the provision of care, or widening the reach of our education offering).
Effectiveness and efficiency:
Design and implement a framework to measure and evaluate the Foundation's impact, developing and embedding relevant KPIs and metrics.
Foster a culture of accountability and monitor key programmes through roll-out and in terms of their outcomes and impact.
Collect, analyse, interpret data to assess the effectiveness of key programmes, proposals or projects - to inform the Court governors decision-making and planning.
Risk management, standards and compliance:
Coordinate and consolidate risk registers across the Foundation and manage risk at corporate level, ensuring that effective controls and mitigations are in place to minimise any negative impact.
Conduct regular organisational, functional and thematic internal audits to check that policies, procedures and standards are adhered to, providing insight to CEO.
Foster cross-organisational integration to enhance operational efficiency, compliance and collaboration.
Reporting and championing:
Provide thematic insight to CEO and governors on task-and-finish deep dives, leveraging data insights to inform improvements.
Consolidate input from across component bodies to prepare and present reports to internal and external stakeholders which capture and demonstrate the Foundation's impact across education, care and place in Croydon.
Engagement, scanning and continuous improvement:
Lead on knowledge-sharing across functions, and work with the schools and care homes to ensure consistency across the Foundation in the areas where it is needed, and to support learning from good practice, innovations and use of technology.
On a thematic basis, engage with staff across the organisation to widen insight and ideas on how the Foundation might increase its reach and impact further. Support heads of establishment and functional leads in environmental scanning, to support risk identification and mitigation
Work with external stakeholders in Croydon to scope how the Foundation's impact might be deepened or expanded in the future
Lead and support the senior leadership team in developing the Foundation's long-term approach and expand the Foundation futures / horizon scanning capability.
Person specification
Essential
Experience of leading strategy implementation and monitoring, collaborating with senior leaders to ensure success.
Experience of successfully identifying risk and mitigating it, working with peers across organisations in a collaborative and future-focused way
Experience of working with executive leads and boards to assure delivery against strategic objectives
Experience of leading long term thinking and horizon scanning which enables sound decision making
The ability to collate, analyse and act upon varied data sets and other sources of information
A collaborative mindset, focused on good outcomes achieved by working together collaboratively and with ambition.
Desirable
Knowledge of Croydon and John Whitgift Foundation
A good understanding of the legal, social and financial context in which the Foundation is operating.
