This is a high-profile role for a seasoned legal professional who can confidently operate across multiple levels of the organisation.
You'll work closely with the Group General Counsel, overseeing the day-to-day management of legal matters and deputising at executive meetings across the new Group. This role requires strategic thinking, strong leadership, and the ability to influence at the highest level.
This role involves leading a high-performing legal team, fostering collaboration and strong stakeholder engagement, and delivering strategic legal advice aligned with business goals. It also includes direct management of specialist legal areas.
You'll also oversee legal advice across the Society and the Bank entities, working closely with the Head of Legal Operations.
This is a fast-paced and highly regulated environment, with expectation of making bold, data-driven decisions that drive performance and deliver measurable results. Ideally suitable for someone who has strategic mindset, strong commercial judgement, and the willingness to rethink traditional methods.

About you
Partner with enterprise leaders and the Group Executive to deliver shared goals. We're seeking a humble, empathetic, and values-led leader with strong stakeholder management skills and a collaborative approach.
To be successful in this role it's essential you have:
Significant experience as a Head of Legal or Deputy GC within the regulated Financial Services sector, with experience of retail banking
Appropriate professional qualifications and experience expected of a senior lawyer
Experienced in the organisation and management of legal teams
Exceptional technical knowledge, skills and experience regarding all relevant legislation, regulations, rules and codes impacting Legal advisory in the Financial Services sector
Resilient record of supervising and managing a legal team and delivering effective legal advisory work in a pressured Financial Services environment
Skilled and experienced at building strong relationships and credibility with all stakeholders, at Exec and Board level in particular and within the wider organisation.
