The Role
The Head of Legal Operations is a very varied role. You will support various teams across NatPower, working closely with our Development Director and CEO. The wider team is managing the development of renewable generation and BESS projects across the UK and this role will be directly assisting the development activities of the projects all the way through to project transactions. There will also be input into corporate finance, land acquisition, third party contracts and general business legals.
The Successful Applicant
We are looking for a candidate with the ability to apply legal expertise across a wide range.
Functional experience. You will be qualified to practice law in the UK. You will have post-qualification experience having in-house experience to a senior level with a sizeable company in the renewable energy, energy transition sector (or related area) or in the renewables team of a large law firm.
Financing experience. You will have recent experience in project financing renewable power assets in the UK renewable, power (or related) market.
Commercial acumen. You will have well-developed commercial awareness with an outcome-orientated and solution-based approach, able to apply legal principles pragmatically.

Job Activities Description
As Head of Legal Operations, you will be responsible for leading the legal function, supporting the business across corporate, commercial, regulatory, and risk matters. You will play a key strategic role in enabling growth, managing legal risk, and supporting transactions, partnerships, and compliance in a fast-evolving regulatory landscape.
You will play a critical role in providing expert legal advice and support to the company's renewable energy and infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for managing a broad range of legal matters, including project agreements, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and commercial contracts. Your extensive legal knowledge, strategic thinking, and strong negotiation skills will contribute to the success of the company's initiatives and help drive the renewable energy transition.
Some of these activities are performed coordinating the work of external legal firms and internal team members.
You will work closely with the project development senior leadership team to provide expert legal advice and guidance to support the development, acquisition, transaction and operation of renewable energy and infrastructure projects
Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements, including: project development agreements; financing agreements; non-disclosure agreements; land purchase contracts and leases; power purchase agreements/corporate power purchase agreements; engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) agreements; tender documentation; procurement contracts; service level agreements; warranty documents and performance guarantees.
Act as the principal legal advisor to senior leadership and the board on all legal and regulatory matters.
Manage legal due diligence processes for project transactions, including assessing legal risks and providing recommendations to senior management.
You will provide training and guidance to colleagues on legal developments and best practices relevant to renewable energy project development
Build and maintain strong relationships with external legal advisors, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure the company's interests are protected
You will manage all Corporate legal matters across the business, including HR, H&S, office lease contracts, service contracts, compliance etc.
Support corporate governance matters, including board meetings, shareholder agreements, and company secretarial responsibilities
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including project development, finance, and operations teams, to identify legal issues, mitigate risks, and support business objectives
You will establish a budget for the legal function and drive value for money
You will monitor changes in relevant legislation and regulatory environments, assessing the impact on the business and taking appropriate action and ensure ompliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
Ensure compliance with relevant energy sector regulation, environmental law, and applicable corporate governance frameworks.
Manage intellectual property, licensing, and data protection obligations.
Build scalable legal processes and policies to support rapid growth and operational efficiency.
What we are looking for:
Essentials:
Qualified solicitor (UK or equivalent) with 5+ years PQE, ideally including in-house experience in the energy, infrastructure, or renewables sector.
Understanding of the project lifecycles and risks across large scale and complex utility-scale projects
Strong experience in commercial, corporate, and regulatory law, with proven ability to manage complex legal matters independently.
Project transaction/corporate finance experience
A pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to manage risk while enabling growth.
Passion for renewable energy and a commitment to sustainable development
Strong communication and negotiating skills
