At Leonardo we have an exciting opportunity to join the team at Edinburgh as the Head of Manufacturing Engineering.

In this role role you will be required to create, define and deliver the Manufacturing Engineering Functional Strategy. Manufacturing Engineering roles at this level require broad experience across the lifecycle phases for New Product Introduction (NPI), Delivery ((sustaining) Inc. equipment engineering), and collaborating with Industrial Architects (infrastructure) and must be able to demonstrate a \'through life approach\xe2\x80\x99 to Manufacturing Engineering. Role holders will typically have a broad and/or deep knowledge and experience of Business Operations. Roles at this level also require broad understanding of the Engineering function and must be able to demonstrate value to the Life Cycle Management Process.

The Head of Manufacturing Engineering role will cover both Delivery and Capability and will be expected to plan and manage people, resources, projects and communications in support of Operations Vice Presidents across sites, trading sectors, multiple IPTs, or equivalent and the Quality / Operations Capability Vice President

Typical Accountabilities

As Head of Manufacturing Engineering you will join the team to lead, develop, and improve the operations manufacturing people, processes, technology and equipment enabling world class production of Leonardo products and continued business growth

Leader of the manufacturing engineering team, responsible for effective planning and communication of company vision and team objectives

Forward thinking strategy ensuring Leonardo manufacturing develops a strategic advantage and industry disrupters

Managing the interfaces between manufacturing engineering and strategic project requirements / wider company.

Collaborating with Industrial Architects

to manage all aspects of the NPI process from change planning, through DfX strategy, process automation and introduction to the line

to industrialise our products and processes implementing requirements from both design and operations teams considering volume, consistent quality and low cost manufacturing

Input too and influence test strategy and test development processes

Integrate process discipline, hardware fixtures, software calibration routines and strong management tools to launch and optimize production processes

Ensuring compliance of the operations solutions against the total through life project requirements including customer requirements; acceptance, legislative, contractual, safety, quality and corporate.

governance of Manufacturing Maturity Reviews in conjunction with Industrial Architects, ensuring the Manufacturing Engineering contribution and approval

enabling research, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; internally and external vendors / equipment vendors

Ensuring decision-making information is focused on the companies\xe2\x80\x99 vision and values with excellent collaboration with other stakeholders and accompanying resolution proposals

ensuring production schedules; production labor and material costs are as required and estimating future requirements

generating the input / information required to compliment technology, process and product roadmaps steering functional and operations strategy whilst achieving business / stakeholder buy-in

Optimising manufacturing efficiency by delivering proposed future infrastructure plans championing leading edge manufacturing techniques and lean principles

Ability to resolve the most complex product and/or production issues championing close working with supply chain, production and quality teams to ensure targeted system output

Creation of the strategy to grow manufacturing engineering knowledge in the organisation

includes recruitment, training, motivating, continuous improvement activities to develop skills and competencies within Manufacturing Engineering to set highest possible standards for quality, efficiency, technical capability, GMP compliance, and promotion of best practice and knowledge exploitation

Support the expansion of the manufacturing capabilities of our global supply chain for outsourced capabilities

Providing domain experience in support of customers, user engagement and product road maps

Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations and representing Leonardo externally

What we need from you:

Recognised as an expert in operations, operations framework, manufacturing, leadership principles and business processes

Considerable expertise in building and developing a high performance, diverse manufacturing, test, supply chain engineering professionals

People management & leadership skills; including effective performance and change management skills (change agent)

Experienced in being a design / maturity review chair at the highest level

Extensive experience of chairing peer reviews of products, processes and infrastructure across business functions ensuring results and actions are implemented

Demonstrated knowledge and experience of all phases of the Product Life Cycle and the associated processes, experienced in design / maturity reviews representing operations at the highest level.

Expert in assessing deliverables in all phases of a products, processes and infrastructure life cycle

NPI / MRL experience bringing new electro-mechanical products to market

Expert in influencing and negotiating with others using facts, proposals, data and analysis to support line of reasoning

Evidence of leadership of capability and process development within Manufacturing Engineering and ability to implement change

Ability to communicate (Inc. concepts) at a leadership level in a non-technical influencing way

Ability to partner effectively with industrial architects, customers and suppliers

Lead capability and / or process development, demonstrating an ability to implement a change to working practices

NPI experience bringing new electro-mechanical products to market
