Role Overview:


The Head of Operations will be responsible for the seamless day-to-day running of the business, ensuring projects are delivered on time, to budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. This role will drive operational excellence, manage the operational team, and implement systems and processes that support sustainable growth as the business scales from 3.5m to 6m turnover by 2030.

As a key member of the leadership team, they will provide operational insight and support strategic decision-making to help the business meet its growth and profitability targets.

Key Responsibilities:



Operational Leadership

Oversee all operational activities across multiple landscaping projects for housebuilder clients. Lead, motivate and develop site/contracts managers, team leaders, and teams to deliver high performance. Ensure all projects are delivered safely, on time, within scope, and to agreed quality standards. Develop and monitor operational KPIs to measure productivity, efficiency, and profitability. Work with Directors to translate strategic goals into operational plans.

Planning & Resource Management

Create robust project plans, scheduling resources, labour, and equipment effectively. Monitor and manage capacity planning to ensure the business can meet current and future demand. Oversee procurement processes for materials, equipment, and subcontractors to control costs and maintain supply chain efficiency.

Process & Systems Improvement

Identify and implement systems, workflows, and processes to drive efficiency and scalability. Introduce and embed operational reporting tools to improve visibility and accountability. Continuously evaluate and refine operational practices to reduce waste and improve margins.

Financial Oversight

Manage operational budgets, ensuring cost control across projects and departments. Collaborate with finance management to forecast revenue, margins, and operational expenditure. Support Directors in commercial decision-making by providing operational insights.

Client & Stakeholder Management

Maintain strong relationships with housebuilder clients to ensure high satisfaction and repeat business. Oversee project delivery to meet contractual obligations and client expectations. Represent the operations function in senior management and client meetings.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations. Foster a culture of safety and quality across all operational teams. Conduct regular audits and implement corrective actions where necessary.

Team Development & Leadership

Recruit, train, and retain high-performing operational staff. Develop clear roles, responsibilities, and progression paths for the operations team. Build a positive and accountable team culture that supports growth.

Key Metrics for Success:



On-time and on-budget project delivery (% of projects meeting targets). Operational gross margin improvement. Client satisfaction and repeat business levels. Reduction in operational errors, delays, and HSE incidents. Successful implementation of scalable systems and processes. Contribution to the achievement of 6m turnover target by 2030.

Ideal Candidate Profile:



Experience
? Proven experience in an operational leadership role within construction, landscaping, or a related field.
? Track record of scaling operations in a fast-growing SME environment.
? Strong understanding of the housebuilder market and its operational demands.

Skills
? Excellent leadership and people management skills.
? Commercial acumen with the ability to manage budgets and improve margins.
? Strong planning, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
? Knowledge of health, safety, and compliance within construction environments.
