The Role
As our Head of Publishing for books, you will oversee the entire publishing process--from idea conception to books hitting the shelves. You'll balance a keen editorial eye with strong business acumen, ensuring our titles meet the highest creative standards while achieving commercial success. This is a leadership role where you'll work closely with authors, agents, editors, designers, and marketing teams to bring our publishing list to life.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and manage the publishing strategy and annual release schedule.
Identify and acquire outstanding manuscripts and book proposals.
Negotiate contracts with authors, agents, and rights holders.
Oversee editorial, design, and production processes to ensure timely delivery.
Work closely with sales, marketing, and publicity teams to maximise reach and revenue.
Monitor market trends and competitor activity to inform publishing decisions.
Manage budgets, forecasts, and P&L for the publishing list.
Represent the company at book fairs, industry events, and author launches.
About You
Proven experience in a senior publishing or commissioning role.
Strong editorial judgment with the ability to spot commercial and literary potential.
Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills.
Sound financial awareness and commercial decision-making ability.
Strong understanding of current and emerging publishing trends.
Exceptional communication and organisational skills.
Passionate about books, storytelling, and connecting with readers.
