Head of Subject for Sport

within a subject area that delivers

undergraduate and postgraduate programmes

and boasts a strong tradition of research. As Head of Subject, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of sport at Birmingham Newman, working to enhance student numbers, elevate our national and international reputation, and ensuring our programmes remain current, engaging, and industry-relevant.



You will work directly with the

Associate Dean (Arts, Humanities and Human Sciences)

and with the

Executive Dean

,

building on the substantial work already undertaken to expand and enrich the Sport subject area. A key part of your role will be to

review and develop the course portfolio

,

ensuring it supports both student success and workforce demands in a rapidly evolving sector.



We are seeking a

visionary leader

with a strong record of academic leadership, teaching excellence, extensive networks, and the strategic insight required to meet the University's performance indicators as outlined in its strategic plan. Your leadership will be instrumental in delivering growth, ensuring an outstanding student experience, and forging meaningful partnerships with employers, schools, colleges, and wider stakeholders.



In addition, you will:


Collaborate with the Associate Dean to ensure the efficient and effective leadership and delivery of teaching programmes in line with University policy and strategy. Lead and support the subject team in growing all programmes and maintaining academic excellence. Enhance the University's external profile through engagement with relevant organisations and professional bodies. Contribute to research, enterprise, and knowledge exchange activities that support the development and growth of the subject area.
