They also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world\'s leading international bank.

Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.

Role Description:

The Head of Strategy & Governance will lead a small but high-performing team, working with colleagues across the wider WPB Business and Technology team, WPB Transformation, WPB IT CIOs, WPB IT Service Lines Business Managers, IT Architecture, WPB IT COO team and IT Heads.

This role is responsible for leading the development and delivery of key strategies, whilst overseeing the smooth running of governance across WPB Technology and contributions into WPB business and Group IT forums. This is a strategic role with a global remit and will inform strategic decision-making and acts as a catalyst and driver for strategic change across WPB Technology. It will also lead and deliver strategic programmes and change projects in support of WPB key objectives, achieving tangible benefits for the WPB Technology organisation.

The Strategy & Governance Team contains around 7 staff spread both onshore and offshore locations. The Strategy & Governance team supports the CIO, COO and global leadership team to articulate and embed the strategy, set governance standards, lead special and strategic projects and ensure a smooth running of the office of the CIO.

This role will support the Wealth and Personal Banking (WPB) Business which offers a range of services, including personal banking, mortgages, loans, credit cards, savings and investments and insurance.

Within WPB Technology there are 11 service lines, with a $1.3Billion Direct Cost budget and approximately 14,000 people, spread over multiple locations worldwide.

This role sits in the WPB Technology COO team under the Strategy & Governance stream. Strategy & Governance team acts as the Office of the CIO and provides Chief of Staff Support to the Global WPB CIO and COO.

Responsibilities:

Drive alignment between the technology strategy and associated solutions with the WPB business\' strategic goals, to maximise the business value technology investments deliver

Build and maintain strong partnership with the WPB business and serve as a subject matter expert on the Business strategy within Technology

Lead the execution of strategic and change programmes within WPB IT in support of business and group priorities

Ensure a strategic thinking culture exists across WPB IT, leading development of key strategies

Identify execution risks on strategy and propose remedial actions

Drive understanding of the WPB Technology strategy objectives, targets and progress, at all levels of the WPB IT organisation through clear monitoring, reporting, communications and engagement

Direct the preparation of Exco and Board submissions regarding strategic programmes

Lead Technology strategy governance, surfacing progress to relevant WPB business and Technology key forums

Accountable for the delivery of materials and inputs to key business and technology governance forums such as the WPB Portfolio Investment Committee, the WPB Management Committee, WPB Technology Operating and Executive Committees.

Own the alignment between WPB IT strategy with the broader Group IT priorities

Represent WPB IT in Group IT strategic programme and influence objectives and outcomes to meet WPB Business objectives

Qualifications

Essential Skillset/Experience:

External experience with a peer financial institution, experience within a technology function and/or prior consulting experience

Proven experience in leading the development and execution of strategies to achieve organisational priorities, within a large and complex organisation.

Experience of leading a governance function or executive office for a senior leader, with the ability to produce board-level executive papers and presentations

Excellent understanding of HSBC\'s strategy and footprint, along with the competitive, regulatory, and macroeconomic environment

Possesses transformation skills, as well as the ability to design and execute a future-oriented strategy

Proven ability to articulate and synthesise complex topics and issues concisely, in simple language to support problem analysis

Ability to build relationships by communicating, influencing, and negotiating effectively with business heads, senior managers, company secretariats, business managers, governance managers across the whole department and business users

Strong interpersonal skills, coupled with the ability to succeed within a matrix management structure and build and maintain global team relationships

Ability to drive change and improvement to existing processes and to create new processes

Considered and timely especially when under pressure with a proven ability to prioritise workload effectively in line with business priorities

Drive and tenacity to ensure change is effectively implemented in a matrix environment. Strong collaborative attitude and experience of working in teams across dispersed geographies.

An appreciation and respect for local cultures, and ability to both influence and work effectively with them

Aptitude for authentically engaging a diverse group of stakeholders to deliver at pace

Comfortable in initiating and willing to challenge the status quo

Lead by example, demonstrating core behaviours and values including teamwork, focus, drive and determination.
