Purpose of the role:Reporting to the CFO, the role will primarily be responsible for managing Tax across the Group, focussing on identifying risks and opportunities and implementing solutions.
Key Accountabilities & ActivitiesDevelop and drive the implementation of a Tax Framework across the UK and European businesses, and take overall ownership for the associated process and control documentation for Corporate Tax and VAT;
Monitor changes in tax legislation and ensure the business remains compliant and well-informed;
Comply with US GAAP and IFRS reporting requirements;
Review and filing of UK Corporate tax and VAT returns;
Manage transfer pricing documentation and intercompany agreements;
Provide subject matter expertise on tax regulations and compliance requirements, including delivery of formal and informal tax training to business participants as needed;
Provide clear input and guidance for any commercial or operational third party negotiations relating to tax;
Be first point of contact for Brookfield Tax team to deal with and resolve any queries;
Be main point of focus for any potential M&A deals for tax matters and considerations;
Take ownership for coordination of tax audits, including liaising with internal and external auditors, business participants, and Senior Management;
Review, evaluate and distil Audit test findings, and escalate possible critical issues to Senior Management, as appropriate;
Ensure that practical and effective remediation plans are established for tax risks identified and play an oversight role to ensure that plans are executed timely and appropriately;
Help to identify new areas of potential risk and opportunities for improvement given changes within the operational environment. Support, where appropriate, the implementation of new internal policies and processes to manage these risk areas and support opportunities;
Involve in and lead discussions on intragroup funding requirements;
Assist with the preparation of board and shareholder resolutions, Companies House filings, and support annual confirmation statement processes;
Help ensure compliance with corporate governance requirements and internal policies;
Help to build a culture of tax understanding and awareness across the Group
Get involved in any ad hoc projects, within remit, as may be required by the CFO, from time to time;
Management and coach one junior staff member.
Person Specification
The Head of Tax must be able to demonstrate the following skills, knowledge and experience:Fully qualified tax professional
Preference for up to 10 years' experience operating as subject matter expert within industry / commercial organisation;
Ability to build healthy working relationships with business stakeholders while exhibiting independence and objectivity in thought and action;
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff across the UK / Europe Freightliner business, as well as key stakeholders;
